FYI: SpaceX filed to launch several THOUSAND StarLinks. Oh, and if something is in Low Earth Orbit... wouldn't that put it CLOSER to the ground? Thereby decreasing latency??

As it stands StarLink is a failure waiting for someone to say it is great. At best you will see limited speed and fluctuating QOS.
The first round of the thousands of mini-sat’ will be less than 75 in orbit. (Per news articles). Those sats will be in low earth orbit which means they are flying by really fast, not in a geosynchronous orbit. Two issues will happen. Your earth bound gear will lock and unlock to the signals frequently and the power level will fluctuate greatly. Let alone the bandwidth will be horrible. You may get bursts of decent speed just as you lose quality of the signal because of short amount of time you will have a good lock. And how are you uplinking to a satellite that is speeding around? Oh you don’t. You still have to have some type of terrestrial connectivity.
This idea is a joke and anyone that understands physics and basic RF knows that.

I was still at the company when the DTV garbage went down. If you followed any Wall Street news, you'd know that 2/3's of DTV's revenue/customer base is in LATIN AMERICA folks!! The primary revenue source is NOT IN THE UNITED STATES.
I'm old enough to remember when you could buy a DTV set up at Radio Shack and set it up yourself. And down south of the border it's still like that. People down there got generators running their shack and their satellite. Pour some Portland cement in a bucket, set your mast, point your dish and listen to the beeps coming from the TV until you get it synced up with the satellite!
Ah,..... the good ol' days. I still remember cloning DTV access cards and using boot loaders and the like.
When Randall decided that the Wire Techs would do the installs and tried to eliminate the contractors is where he messed up. They should've just left everything as is and saved the money from integrating Work Flow and DTV's systems together. Doing DTV installs contributed to my leaving in 2016. It was GARBAGE. Uverse was a superior product. Especially in Florida.

Customers didn't want that c-ap. The only reason to subscribe to DTV in the U.S. was the Sunday Ticket. Nothing else. Randy screwed that pooch.
Anyway, when they made the purchase they knew that 5G was going to replace everything. In Latin America they could squeeze out an extra 5 years of DTV before the 5G systems make their way down south. Randy was only interested in the subscriber base. A larger subscriber base gives you more leverage when negotiating with the CONTENT OWNERS.
But guess what y'all??? Now AT&T and Randy are "content owners." They bought Time Warner. Pair that with the subscriber base leverage and now you got an 800 pound gorilla.
Don't worry y'all.... SpaceX is going to give all the TELCOS/Cable companies a nice a-- whoopin when that StarLink goes active in the next couple years.

That's the revisionist view. When AT&T first bought DTV I heard Randy say that satellite was a superior and cheaper way to distribute video. Now that his ignorance has been proven the corporate shills come out of the woodwork spouting this nonsense. It must be nice to have a PR department to redo history when necessary to cover mistakes. 1984 AT&T style.
