Maybe my club is the only club this is happening in but I'm curious to see if anyone else feels this way. I know alot of postions were cut...but the shortage of staff here in my club is absolutely insane. Ive always been told members first, yet everyday i see more and more angry members because there is no staff to help them. I am constantly pulled from my area to help every where else that I am not trained for. I am constantly apologizing to members and dealing with their glares while they wait 15 20 minutes or even more. The club manager could care less as he hangs out around the club with his "crew" I don't understand this anymore. We are told our store is fully staffed yet theres never anyone in electronics because the one person they schedule is off doing a million other things. I have never seen a place thats supposed to so member centered yet the store cant run properly? Its pretty sad to me lately. I do everything I can to help but its like a losing battle here. Is anyone else having these issues in their club or is this just in my lovely one?

TBH in my area.. i have associates that should have been "displaced" long ago but we're already running skeleton crew. Reqs are open but we have a hard time filling the positions. Store wide it's not quite as bad but there are a few areas that are having the same issues. There are certain associates that are club makers... picking up the slack of many others that keep us treading water if/when we lose any of those the house of cards will come tumbling down.
A little honesty goes a omg way . That’s what’s lacking at Sam’s club . The managers know what’s happening with different positions in the club but don’t say anything . For example the business office went live on Thursday and no one in management was there to help or even cared . Now our job In done in 2 hours and then what . I went downstairs and helped out . Does anyone know if we are in jeopardy of losing our jobs ? I heard Wal-Mart has no one in the business office their csm is doing the work !
Any one have a clue what’s going to happen to the business office associates? We go live tomorrow so hopefully all goes well .
Yes!! And it's BS they're trying to working everyone to death.
@2xtb - Quitting isint the point, it's the fact that managers and HO get away with this stuff. There's no excuse we can't have enough people on schedule to cover demand.
I've seen mornings where there's only one cashier until 10a.
I've seen days where they forget to schedule another member greeter and we have to pull from another dept to cover it. Same with TBC.
Quitting doesn't fix the managers incompetence.
News Flash !!!
You can QUIT!!!
You transfer a call, it rings and rings. No one answers. It comes back to you and now the member is angry.
Or you are the only one at the desk and have a line of people waiting, and you can't answer the phone. If you do, the caller wants to know the prices of mattresses, which ones are on sale, and if you can go measure one so they can be sure it will fit in their truck - I kid you not. That's the call I got Sunday. The member you're waiting on is p!sssssed because you answered the phone instead of paying attention to them. Your co-associate is giving a break at the door or being a runner. You can't call hardlines, because no one is there today. Why? They quit scheduling anyone.
And then when we radio for a electronics associate, to answer a question - that we can't possible answer, because we don't know what half the stuff in electronics is, let alone how it works - that person is on a forklift - so you have to go back and forth on the radio between the guy on the phone and the guy on the forklift. Plus wait on members in the ever growing line.
And those ridiculous iPads don't work half as well as the old computers when it comes to finding a member. Nor can you create a membership in half the time. Why? Because their driver's license won't scan and I can't type 60 words a minute on the iPad. Then there's the member who brings "something" back in, no receipt, no nothing and you're trying to find it on the iPad. Ain't gonna happen. Period. You can't type in a description. And they don't know when they bought it. So what do you do? Pick a receipt. It's not the right one, BUT there's NO BACK BUTTON, so you have to start over. I hate these tablets.
We use to have three people at the desk on the weekends, all day, and we never stopped. Now there may be three scheduled, but they're giving breaks, running, click n pulling, stocking, or something else and the member is left waiting and the phones are left ringing.
Remember not to complain because they owe you nothing either.
Same thing happening at my store with staffing on both nights and days, already looking at employment at three other employers. I am just waiting a few more weeks. I am waiting for the PTC's to be removed from the picture; afterwards, I expect them to tell how long night shift has left, and if severance will be offered to the shift. I have heard and read mixed thing about severance being offed to night shift. Regardless how much the company tries to sugarcoat things, I make my own observations and do my own research, and if I do not want to be with this company, I do not have to stay; however, I have a choice in how I leave and doing it professionally. I think a severance payout is obviously the best option for me because I get paid extra for having the mental fortitude of going through the hell a little-bit longer, looks good on the resume, and unemployment become available. I do not care about unemployment, I do want a little vacation, then I want to get back to working again. :). I gave the company my time and worked my but off, they paid me money, I do not owe them nothing. My thoughts...
Our gm has said he will make sure to delete unfilled shifts so no one gets hours
So Cal here - yes this is true:
but the shortage of staff here in my club is absolutely insane
Night crew will be member service on floor and probably runners also. Hopefully we will have time to stock the club .
Always short staffed in MI. Do less with more, but we are suppose to be "family". Elimination of positions, no one on floor often. Or they're to busy with inventory prep so they can't answer calls. All for 2% raise. It's tough to go in each day. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. I tell the youngsters that are wavering, run while you can. It's not worth it.
Hate this place, managers have NO say. They are told what to do or else by HO. Great way to go through life. I’m looking for other employment every day, 25 years here and have no more loyalty to this place.
The pt’s that really want to work will take the shifts. I know several associates that have asked for more hours and have volunteered to be called in if someone calls off. It won’t solve the problem, but there are associates that need the hours, need the money, and will do whatever they need to do to provide a better life for their families.
You people are insane if you think "Block Scheduling" is going to solve any of the issues with the areas that need help. No associate from another area is going to sign up to work as a cashier/runner/carts/floor associate.
New block scheduling will allow associates the opportunity to pick up extra shifts or extra time by listing unfilled shifts. This function will allow PT associates the ability to work more hours in the areas that the club is short staffed. Maybe Cafe is always short a lunch time associates during the week, but it is only 2/four hour shifts a week. Instead of trying to keep another PT associate in Cafe but only being able to give them 10–12 hours per week, the shift can be unfilled and a cashier or floor associate that wants another shift that week can take the shift. This program is not live yet, and ETA of implementation is unknown.
Same at our Club, team leads step down, no one scheduled in Electronics even though we are supposed to have Electronics staffed from open to close. Only one person scheduled in TBA, no call no shows, can't call the people that will come to work in because no overtime. When does all this end? What direction is H/O really taking this company?
Yes, same here, I think we all are frustrated!
The not so distant goal is for Sam's clubs to move to the Sam's Now model. Reach out and find out how many associates work there and theres your answer.
Removing HR from clubs of 150+ employees is proof of the future of under 50 employees. Regional HR could not even handle their business before this, it's only worse now. Market Managers are so afraid their going to lose their jobs, they retaliate against anyone who doesnt act like their little puppet. They dont want HR in clubs as that is the "people" part of the business. What Sam's is eliminating.
Same thing in my club, it's sad. We are losing associates weekly and none of them are being replaced. Management keep saying that our staffing is in line with corporate expectations. How can that be … if we are in line this week, then lose 3 associates, how can we still be in line ??????? The chartered associates are the ones that stay and are expected to pick up the duties of the ones who quit. NO respect for the individual, NO appreciation for associates who come in when scheduled, stay late, pick up extra shifts. Just constant complaining, why isn't this done ? You need to work faster. NO excuses, make it happen.
