@ifby The pension cash balance can be rolled out if one wishes after leaving. Some do but most just wait for an EISP to give a little extra to the mix maybe take a vacation buy a car, pay off the lake house or whatever with it. Having the K plan and a pension is certainly the way to go. The company tries to play it off that the improved K plan is better than the pension but the only reason they screwed the non represented people out of their's was to improve the bottom line. It is really sinful what they got away with.

Nah, but most enjoy a little icing on the cake if it’s offered. 1fby, you wrote 3 paragraphs of VSP ramble.

Sweet. Sounds like you don't need an EISP at all. See that? I just solved all your problems. Without writing 3 paragraphs of union ramble too.

That’s a terrific selective memory @1fby. You know what’s better than a 401k, and what brings you considerably north of your “million”, a 401k + a pension.

You remind me of Dr. Evil, when he says “1 million dollars”, thinking it’s a big deal because, in his limited mind, it is, and then all those around him have a hearty laugh at his ignorant expense.

Your move, 1fby. And, by all means, please do keep “dat braggin” going, as it’s providing no small amount of comic relief to this forum.

What is this? An EISP board? I thought it was a layoff board. Take this $hit to the union hall.

I'm a veteran. I don't pay for health insurance. Nice try though...

Yeah I don't know what 2006 is, but I had this thing called a 401k. After 19 years of contibuting to it plus company match plus company profit sharing, there is over a million in it now. It earns more annually in dividends and interest than I do. I'm 45 now. I'll be retired by my early 50's set for life.

You can keep the lousy pension, you can't roll it over to a new employer. Totally blows.

How bout dat braggin?

@1psm

No need to figure out what to do with it. You’re going to need that money to buy health insurance...my retired management friends tell me it’s around $900 per month. Yup, you’re right...it’s going to rain in vspville. Karma!

@1psm, hopefully that VSP you’re bragging about to some small extent has offset the financial pummeling you took in 2006. EISP or not, it’s nice to have a pension that continues accruing throughout one’s entire career.

Too bad. Its raining money in VSPVille. Still trying to figure out what to do with it all after paying off the house.
