Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

New Attendance Policy

Starting Saturday!!! 5 call offs and you are done. No more 3 for 1. Finally this company got something right. No more night crew calling off 3 days in a row before 2 days off. Best move ever. Training sessions all week. All associates will have a clean slate starting Saturday.

How does it feel to go to school again. Graduated 48 years ago and now I have to report to the principal if I am sick. Do I also need a red paddle to go to the bathroom ? The company has failed us and has no common sense.

Just curious

if they haven't told us this yet

@1rlb:

Nope. FMLA is also a process wherein proof has to be established. When you file for an FMLA, the request goes to Sedgwick. Sedgwick then goes to your Regional Level People Partner, who checks with your Club Manager to see if this is a legit need for an FMLA Leave of Absence or not. The burden of proof is on the Associate to provide proof of a need for a FMLA. Meaning: Medical paperwork filled out by a medical provider/funeral director/etc. Phone calls are placed from Sedgwick to determine proof. Sedgwick will call a funeral director and a doctor's office to validate the need for a FMLA.

Don't mislead these Associates into thinking they can just apply for an FMLA "just because" they don't want to show up for work. Associates have been fired for requesting an FMLA, having it denied by Sedgwick, and not showing up to work. Screeching and crying when you show up to try to clock back in (and you can't because you were fired) when you try to claim that you were at "Uncle Hermie's funeral!" is pointless.

In conclusion: FMLA, Military, Medical, and Intermittent LOA's are all "vetted" at 3 different levels for authenticity. Sam's has been taken advantage of before. They know how to spot the b---s---.

@1zbi...agreed. that would be like releasing all d--g offense prisoners just because the states law changed policy on m-r-j-a-a (legalized).

No. Your disciplinary action for attendance won't go away. Coachings don't just "disappear" every time a new policy change rolls out. Coachings are performance and event based. Meaning, there was a pattern of behaviors that led to an Associate getting disciplined. Even if a policy changes, it doesn't mean that past coachings just go away. The company isn't going to say "Oh, the policy has changed. Let's just ignore the past behavior that the Associate got disciplined for by wiping the written coaching out of the system."

The "reset" to zero on Saturday just means that if you had 2 or 3 absences in the system and had yet to be disciplined, that those tracked in the system (through SMART and on the Associate Information Line) will adjust to zero.

So if you have coachings for attendance that just disappear?

Clean slate for everyone once more stick it to the ones that never call in. Let’s see how many call out now in between Saturday.

Sounds great on paper but if the managers follow this policy as well as the old it wont matter. We have associates over 15 with no coachings.

Not in Market 10 (OKC-Tulsa) they don't. Assistant Managers aren't allowed sick days. They never call in. Not allowed to.

I'm 100% serious.

This company wants us to bow down to them as if they are some high class office. 😂

If they don't want so many call ins then they should treat their associates better. Having them rush around shorthanded and not making a living wage is not going to get them the high class people they want us to be. I should be putting in my 2 weeks by tomorrow anyway. I found a real job. I won't miss a thing! Only thing it taught me is what I don't want in life. This unprofessional atmosphere does nothing but bring everyone down. All the way up to the top is nothing but chimps bouncing dumb ideas off each other.

Managers do call in just as much. Only difference is they cover one another and switch schedules so you all don't really notice it. Plus there are only a few of them vs over 100 regular associates.

Sam's club.... The ghetto of the retail world.

@gyh:

As a reminder: being sick is not an Approved Absence, per the policy.

You need to provide some sort of proof if you are seriously hospitalized. The burden is on the Associate to report their illnesses and to communicate an extended stay in the hospital to the company. There is always an LOA option available, if you are hospitalized and cannot make it to work.

Just saying "Oh I have the flu, I'm not coming in today" isn't going to work anymore. If you care about your job, you'll make the effort to show up. Why don't Managers ever get sick? How many sick days do they get? Zero. They show up because they're expected to. Now the hourly Associates are going to be held to the standard, as it always should have been.

Bottom line is, this boils down to one thing: You can't trust Associates. Most of them lie about their illnesses.

And what about those with serious issues? I was recently in the hospital with pneumonia. So nobody can be legitimately sick anymore? What if someone has the flu? Things like that.

@icy and jyq The system does auto fire. Warnings show up when you clock in. Then when total number met will show "terminated" when you try and click in. No more being "tight" with your manager

Pretty sorry that all these people that call in all the time get yet another clean slate . Those ones need to be gone now . Just not right for the ones always showing up . There will be lots of call in this week and atta boy to those that call in get to start all over . Wrong. Hold them accountable now

Unless the system auto-fires you, it's all about enforcement, and if it's being utilized correctly.
