Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Are all badge swipes equal?

Does anyone know if the different types of badge readers count differently? The entrance I’ve been using 4 days a week has the kind where you physically swipe your access card like a credit card, but the entrance by the guard has the kind where you tap your ID.

Actually, I'm not youthful.

Retired after 38 years working outside in Wisconsin weather.

My point was not to denigrate, but since I was hired in the late 70's, T has always changed things that made zero sense. But they write the checks, they make the rules. AAMOF, they have so many directives and rules and make so many changes it's fairly easy to use their rules to your advantage. Think about it...

Good luck to all...fly low, smile and wave.

Our Technical Manager received a report on badge swipes for our group for November & December, down to what days off holidays/people had. What's next, microchipping us or slapping an ankle monitoring bracelet on us all?

A poster “I hope they crosscheck VPN and badge data. ”. Yes, yes they do, in greater detail than I care to share. It’s up to your higher mgt to decide what to do with

@1odx, bringing us in to get a better idea where our classifications lyes brings a smile to my face.....naw, I might disagree with ya on that one....a phone call with a few questions could do that.

I do however start to quietly laugh when I think about walking into my bosses office and saying, “If I’m gonna get the boot soon, maybe we need talk about my 30 yrs. back pay!” Whatya think?

Thanks for the advice, I break down the rest of my career into quarters....every quarter survived is another quarter lived. When the call comes, i will be ready.

Unless you're a computer professional, or another kind of professional, it's possible the company is under stress to prove you are exempt, that is, salaried. And they can't decide if you're exempt or non-exempt (must be paid overtime); the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) defines that. By having you scan in, they may be counting the hours and assessing if they have a potential problem in having incorrectly made a person salaried. Your scanning creates an official company record. So with the reorgs and potential reclassification of workers they need to be clear about whether they owe any overtime/backpay, etc., for improper classification. That's just one idea about the need to have employees come in.

@ihd, your speed & agility to hit the road running are only equaled by your lack of understanding, life experience and most likely youth....every situation doesn’t equate to yours.

I’m a WFH ‘folk’ and my days are numbered, I know this, and I can honestly say I couldn’t do your job anymore than you could do mine. But that said, when you’re relaxing, having a cold brew with your buds I’m dealing with midnight calls in Japan my time...fourteen hours earlier their time.

Calls with India, U.K. Brazil, Philippines and I could go on....and I would love to say it’s normal to take, or have these calls during normal hours, but our lives (the people who recognize what I’m saying) don’t work that way.

When you are in early, geared up and out in 10 minutes the chances I, and many others, have been up dealing with business in one of those countries 2-3 hours before you had your first coffee.

My job is not better than yours, and no doubt you could tell me your own War Stories....What I can say is, in 30+ years, I’ve certainly never seen a dime of OT, It’s the action I bought, I have no real complaints.....except to say, walk in the others shoes before you say something you know nothing about.

Good luck, grow old and keep on truckin’

FYI. 2 folks in my group were approved TW and got lay off notice. 1 person who was FTO in Collab zone but never came in got bumped, a few who went into an office with other team mates got hit but not everyone. This is a game with no rules. I got hit but at this point, I don't even care, I just want this misery over.

@bly is an upper management troll. These dipshits get so butthurt so easily that they come on this board to downvote every comment that makes sense. Might even be McLovin’, one of the Johns, or Candy Boy himself. All Entitled pricks!

@ymr I hope they crosscheck VPN and badge data. I swipe into the office every day but my job requires me to VPN to secure enclave so I am never connected to office WAN.

When and where you log in can be monitored by your pc. Remote log in information is easily obtainable

All badge readers, wether they allow access by unlocking a door, or are just a reader at gaurd station count the same. The original intent is so they know whos in a building in event of emergency and can make sure everyone is accounted for. Or as I have for years, used for security access to unlock my way into and thru a building. Don't have knowledge of management reviewing badge swipe information.

@ihd Because different types of work have different needs regarding physical location.. Could you do your job effectively 100% remotely? No. Can many office folks? Yes.

I was expected to be at the garage, on time, every day and ready to work. Stocked up, 1st job dispatched and out the door working in 10 minutes. Why should't office folks?

My Center used the "badge swipe" at the door to determine if you were tardy for many years. 3 years ago they changed,,and now they check when you log into your work station. Our mgr said "Too many people are coming in the door on time and then wasting 10-15 minutes getting coffee and going to the bathroom" Gotta love it

@bly.......any company that looks a report about badge scans is epically stupid. Maybe they should worry about the failing DTV service and the massive amounts of debt we have, instead of focusing on who scans their f---ing badge. Also, if my check didn’t clear, yea I’d be p-ss-d off because I’m owed that money. We don’t owe a badge scan to get work done.

@gkx It's a sweat shop and they "get away with it" cause you have to swipe your badge? Yet, you seem to keep getting away with cashing your checks from AT&T. Imagine if one of those checks didn't swipe properly into your bank account.. I bet you'd be a stickler then!

I’m at a building like OP’s and what I’ve been doing is to go to the main entrance when I’m first arriving and badge in at the tap scanner there, then I leave through the side entrance and turn around and swipe my badge through the scanner there. I look like an id--t but I’m not taking any chances LOL

Shouldn't make a difference, since I'd think both would feed in to the same system. Guess it's a good reason to not tailgate someone coming in the door.

Yes, like others have said, used to be a good company to work for, but it's been turned in to a sweat shop. Only reason they can get away with it is a lot of other companies are doing the same thing.
