Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It’s hard to give 100% to the company if we don’t know what direction we’re heading in

People are getting laid off left and right with no logic or pattern, we are not informed in what direction the major projects at the company are heading, no info on the way we’ll be doing business,or even about how long do we get to keep our jobs, an yet the company expect to get the absolute best performance from the employees. I doesn't work that way. A stressed out and angry worker can’t be at his best.

Might be time to dig into the financial statements they released. Lot more difficult with them breaking the report into so many business units but there is interesting yoy numbers as far as growth or shrinkage on specific services. My group still supports voice services and those numbers took the yearly million number loss.

Msoc has always created an environment that encourages bad behavior. I have seen it in both the field and support positions within the office. The almighty spreadsheet is alll that counts, techs that resolve issues are penalized and those that pass the buck and resolve nothing are praised. This is the worst form of management I have ever seen.

More load control and 1st and 2nd line managers will be surplused. New installation and trouble ticket completion is not meeting msoc required completion times due to the fact that management created false time estimates. Msoc managers are to blame and will be or already are fired. Its all managements fault. It’s easy to sit behind a computer screen and imagine the work will be completed in a fraction of the time required to complete a task. So sorry.

@1uzx. Your vp’s attitude is terrible, but not all that uncommon. These higher ups all are completely bereft any moral compass and totally lack empathy. Sociopaths and narcissists all!

They all can go to hell as far as I am concerned. Karma is a real b--ch. If they don’t get it in this life, they will in the next!

I have been laid off and I am done. I will do as little as possible and only apply for jobs I am not qualified for. I have worked here most of my life and I am ready to put my family and myself first starting now. I am thankful for the friendships, the benefits and the paycheck while they lasted. And I am relieved I DONT have to sweat this any longer.

@1ggf, spoken like someone who received a poor ranking on their last review, feeling a bit cranky are we? No doubt you treat many with equal disrespect, because a class act like you has all the answers.

In the future it might be better to heed the sage advice of a turn of the century novelist, “its better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid, than open it and remove all doubt.” Mark Twain

My VP’s stance on the morale being low because of all the layoffs. “You need to get used to it as it’s a fact of life in the company. If you can’t handle the stress, people should move on from the company.”

Fast forward to January 28th, I was impacted by the latest force reduction. 😡

The leadership has been talking about "Workplace 2020" for a long time. There are a lot of jobs out there that are just not needed anymore. I see so much waste and redundancy. Many groups sole purpose is to develop process on top of process that slow down and hinder the rollout of new technology. I have been in wireless since analog days and close to retirement.I feel the pain a for those going through this but if you didn't see this coming you haven't been paying attention. With a booming economy it is a pretty good time to go find a new path. If you really were a top performer you will have no problem finding a job. I suggest you start looking at small size companies and you will be much happier.

Do the minimum. Put that extra effort elsewhere. It will not save you from getting axed. So why bother?

With all that is happening isn't it clear where it is heading? Work out your exit plan before they do it for you.

Amen brother (or sister?). My coworkers and I were just discussing this today. We do not plan on busting our butts off this year. They will get a normal days worth of work.

It’s been this way for the past 3-4 years. Uncertainty along with the frequent surplus events. I have aged tenfold during these years stressing and worrying about if I will be next. Well my time came up last year and I have never felt so relieved. I am a healthier and happier than ever. Like many have said, there is life after AT&T. It’ll take patience but in due time you will be better off than at T.
