Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T is NOT Google and Apple

I was released this round. I've got 22 years, worked my butt off the last 3 years to comply with a lot of efforts. When I heard the rumors just before Thanksgiving I updated my resume and started applying. No hits yet, but I'm keeping that positive attitude, you have to right? The problem with 5 managers up is that they think that AT&T needs to be like Google and Apple when it comes to collaboration. AT&T is NOT. What was the company built on was service and support throughout he company. Not a campus style that wants you to be there 24/7 like Google and Apple. Cmon now. McElfresh needs to get a grip and realize that people that work in one location work with people in separate locations. Might as well get rid of WebEx, Q, and email if you want people to be is these so called "collaboration zones". I know I am ranting, but this guy is bad, look at his record. Look up his history, he only stays in organizations for no more than 2.25 years then he moves on. He is a virus to the company. The board of directors better wake up and start removing these jokes. Ok, I'm done with my rant.

This .pdf explains the company's interest in WFH, etc., in 2012. It was all the rage. They do new stuff and when it gets boring, they drop it and move on to something else. Can't believe the Mission Statement from back in like 2011 was like "We are a communication company and can connect anyone anywhere any time." Then they became an entertainment company. They need an LED sign to keep up with changing Mission Statements. https://www.att.com/Common/about_us/files/csr_2012/worklife_balance.pdf

Mc Elf is no different than any other Exec....With the constant shuffling and re-orgs most stay in a position 2 years or less which is not enough time to make an impact or get anything done ....You can't hit a moving target....Having ex-Contractor Accountants running Tech Dev etc....It's an asylum and the nuts are running the place.....I love the company and I am grateful for my paycheck, friends I have made while here and the work most of the time in my career...Unfortunately not of late as there appears to be no respect for the company amongst co-workers etc...Things have to turn around .....

Been there, done that. Been in your shoes several times over the years. Ever changing corporate dynamics make it impossible to remain loyal with an organization which has zero concern with its employees. Each tome it has happened to me, everything got better and my personal circumstances improved. Focus on what’s important and the important things will see you through.

There are employees who are clueless of technology, Artificial Intelligence, have no idea what t-space was, what an App is or how to download one but amazingly still on payroll. Some have flip phones. Good luck being the like of Apple/Google in 2020.

Yeah I remember one of the vp's, or directors or whoever she was came on stage and said we will beat google. I spit my coffee out.

The senior management will never get what it means to be google or apple for that matter. Just because say it doesn't make it true.

Yeah this new culture of purchasing hemmoraging companies for billions over their true value so that you can pretend to be “Google goes to Hollywood” is superfly. Wait until Apple includes their TV service with the purchase of a new phone. Its gonna deep dickens time then boyos.

It maybe isn't Google or APPL but it certainly has to break the ties with the old highly regulated wireline culture. I have seen employees move over to the wireless side of the business and unable to adapt to the speed at which things are done. It is very frustrating dealing with the legacy parts of T. That culture needs to go away.... as difficult as they may be on the personal level.

Laying off due to collaboration zones is just the current flavor of the month. Next quarter it will be something else and CVs will be a distant memory.

Does anyone know about any class action suits pending? My job was "eliminated" but they moved me to it in December, so I know I was targeted. I am one of the top performers, but also probably one of the top paid. If they left me in the group as a whole, they couldn't justify it....AND I heard today, they moved people around again, so it didn't matter what job I had, they could have moved me too.

"AT&T is NOT Google and Apple" .... y'a think ?

Randal was right ... he succeeded to make this, once a great company, an entertainment company.

Only that the clowns are running this sad show.

McLovin’ was brought in to take the fall. Arnoldi the Queen b--ch is being groomed to be the next CEO after Candy boy. If you think she will be an improvement, you are sorely mistaken. The woman is a horrible human being.

Sorry to read this but the CZ is a smokescreen. There are 180 Billion reasons for this layoff and this stealth layoff is a perfect way to avoid discrimination litigation. Good Luck.

FYI. The term 'collaboration zone' is now being called 'engagement zone'. The cities remain the same. Check it on t-space.

First sorry to hear that you lost your job. I am starting my 24th year with the company and the writing is on the wall for my job as well as I do not work in a collaboration zone, nor is one close enough to travel to. To me collaboration is just a term they are using or justification to get rid of headcount. And I agree we are spread across the country and there are so many numerous ways to communicate other than face to face... Q, tSpace, WebEx, Skype, email, phone etc. I remember it wasn't that long ago the company was looking to have people work from home because they felt they were more productive and it would save the company money on space and energy costs.

Unfortunately, McElfresh was just brought in to do Donovan's dirty work. Arnoldi wouldn't do it, so she got banished to Mexico. Blaming McElfresh is just what they want.
