I have been offered to move Chicago to Dallas under the same position and band, but they will have to adjust the total compensation due to the cost of living differences. I make around $100k in Chicago.
How much pay cut to expect if I said yes? Any one knows what HR formulas are?
There were better bargains before the carpet baggers from other states with higher cost of living and salaries moved in and became a disruption
In Dallas area, you can get above average house with less than 300k. Come to Chicago and see how expensive it is.
North Texas has had a real estate boom lately, you may no longer see a bargain for a house as you have seen in past years. Competition is keen right now with multiple offers on good houses , especially within a good school district. And good luck with the traffic if needing to commute to the Death Star in downtown especially with no real mass transit options that you may be used to up in Chicago.

Illinois is a DUMP. I lived there for 23 years, left 5 years ago for TN..Immediate 5% raise. I can call Illinois a DUMP since I lived there.

Dallas is a huge cultural shift from Chicago. Make very sure you want to live there before relocating for a company like this.
The weather is HOT 9 months of the year. Most people never go outside because it's so miserable. If you like green grass, occasional rain and winters, you will hate Texas.
Dallas is a huge step down in terms of culture vs Chicago. the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex is an endless sprawl of highways, traffic and ugly neighborhoods. The opposite of a high density urban metropolis like Chicago.
The people of Texas are nice enough, but you may not like their politics being from the north. AT&T management here, however, are extremely arrogant and demanding, worse than in other places.
Move out of Illinois. Terrible schools, weather, high property taxes, and it will only get worse. You will look back and wish you did. I left and don’t regret it one bit. Illinois is losing population, the last one out please turn off the lights.

From chicago but lived in Dallas. No state income tax, way lower real estate taxes, I think home owners insurance was the only thing that was higher. And you will need 2, central air conditioners. Kind of a big suburb, no cool things like Chicago but if I was moving to keep a job, Dallas would be the only place I would go, at least until current leadership is gone. Best chance to survive TODAY IS Dallas.

Chicago is Geo Zone N3. Dallas is Geo Zone N2. Your salary will not be cut but your yearly raises will be lower since you will be higher in your Target Salary Range.
In all honesty, the potential differences in salary are not large enough to be meaningful in this decision. There are much bigger factors you should be considering. Climate, politics, culture, family, job market, housing situation. If your not tied down, I'd do it. IL is a dump.
Though its humurous that someone mentioned high property taxes and sales taxes in the Dallas area. They must not realize that IL has the highest property taxes in the country and that Cook County sales tax is already close to 10%.

This isn’t HR’s first rodeo, if they can’t tell you then there is something wrong. Then what happens if they drop you by 2020 in their push to slim down?
Unless, and that’s the if, you have a Pension on the line with Modified Rule of 75, I would stay and collect the Severance...see if Unemployment covers you and search for a company that wants your talents.

Bought the no income tax stuff when I moved there. The sales and property taxes are pretty high. If you decide to move check with your realtor. The special school property taxes in some areas are ridiculous.
Sounds like you’re being fed a load of BS. Salaries are not adjusted upon a relocation. Your annual raise may be affected but I’m fairly confident that Chicago and Dallas fall into the same HR geo region category and shouldn’t have a difference in TSR.

Hmm, let’s see. It’s flatter than flat and hotter than hell for about 9 months. Tornadoes, traffic and absolutely no natural beauty. So I’m going to say that after about a year you’ll wish you were back in Chicago like so many other people who relocated to what is truly a c-appy city
Well you won’t need a bullet proof vest here nor will you face as much corruption. No state income tax. Property and sales tax. It’s cheaper to live here. It’s a well led state with many opportunities.
I'd say, look at the Market Zone now called GEO Zone. The FAQ on Geo Zones says a that a change in Geo Zones won't impact current salary. It is vague on merit increases, as we all know they like to keep us in the middle area of a Target Salary Range.
HR can best answer your questions, as they own that process.
