Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Useful info on layoffs

Really useful info from another thread, Anybody wondering about layoffs should read it. Original is here: @X7ZL1FD-unk

These are notes from our call under ATO, Robertson org (keep in mind this could differ by org):

*Mcelfresh email was the official notification of surplus (anyone who received the email could be impacted)

*Old rules like notification calls do not apply in this situation

*no numbers or % surplus have been provided officially but 2020 goal was 1/3 of workforce - not sure 1/3 of what total number

*end of this month, 1/28, a call will be held starting the 60 day clock

*off payroll by 3/28

*geography (set up by dept) - rating, ranking, job title, and geography will be part of the decision

*if rating/ranking/job title is the same geo will be deciding factor

*customer facing location is not a hub/collab zone

*no volunteering or show of interest this time

*contractors not included

*standard separation package

*impacts 2nd and 3rd level managers as well

A friend of mine still works at AT&T and told me what was going on.

I left the company over 11 years ago and just reading this stuff brings back the awful memories of constantly worrying about losing one's job. A bit like post traumatic stress.

My sympathies and best wishes to you all.

This is BS because how hard you work and your rating totally have nothing to do with anything. In my department everything is based on politics and who's click your in and if your manager is your friend outside of work. I always exceeded even thought i only got a meets on my rating. #'s wise I was always a top performer.. I never called in sick.... 20 years of faithful and dedicated sevice yet i was laid off. My advise.....get the manager's click if you want to eat because hard work in this company gets you nowhere

What I do not understand is how AT&T can have some many Directors with only a handful (<10) people in their organizations. The company cannot keep letting go individual contributors and keep these middle management types around. It's time to flatten.

This will impact 4th and 5th levels as well this time.

@gvl, actually the management severance shows 50% of pay at 13 or more years. Subtract 4% for every year less than that.

So if the email was the message why were some people given more info? I hate the way AT&T keeps everyone in the dark with all these layoffs. They know who, when and where all these layoffs will happen throughout this year and just play stupid. So many people in my work group have left on their own that employees who asked to leave were told no. My department has even hired people in the last 3 months yet we are told everyday we should look for new employment. We have been told that for the past 2 years! Remember one thing. AT&T does not care about any of us

@gvl: Standard severance package is 1 year of tenure equals 1 week of pay, up to 50% of your annual salary. Benefits are covered for up to 6 months post-separation. You have 6 months to convert your 401k to an IRA before losing the vested company share.

What is a standard separation package right now?

@X7fn6qO - Thanks for your info. This pretty much coincides with our ATO Taylor org info so at least there is some consistency. Our director did say that the cuts would be across ALL AT&T orgs and would average about a 10% reduction overall. As you stated, each org may have a different take on things. Good luck to us all . . .
