In retrospect, I don’t think my leadership team had any intention of letting me go via the VSP. It was used in our workgroup to get rid of the most tenured people without accusations of age discrimination . I feel used, and it makes me sick to my stomach. If I felt any trepidation about leaving before, I do not feel that now. Now I just need to figure out my new exit strategy

@1aie What is "a letter"?
I got approved with only 2 years' tenure, am below 40.
Don't worry little pawn, in chess it's called "promotion" Teamwork enables us, we're happy to have to go - go team.
@1nrc, if I were you, I’d write indignant, carefully crafted letter and, by God, I sweae I would unsparingly use both exclamation points and ALL CAPS!
I know this seems the “nuclear option”, but a millennial needs to fight when a millennial needs to fight!
Did you miss the episode when Mr Rogers warned of con artists?
My advice, have mom grab dad’s hankie, let her hold it while you blow your nose. Let her wipe your eyes frer of any lingering tears. Have her help you put your big boy pants on. Go back out. Face the world. Don’t be a s---er that get’s, as you say, “duped”, and man the f up, already.
You’re an adult, are you not?
Sheeesh.
From The Greatest Generation to The Weakest Generation, in just a half century. We’re doomed with you dips, err, dupes.
You got it. Feel like those cities where Amazon got them to go all out and then stiffed them because they never wanted to go there in the first place. You feel used and disrespected.
Definitely pawns. No intention of letting go many of us rejected. Lower management in the dark but the execs knew. All a numbers game to get the 20 yr and more people out the door. Not enough of them took it though so they had to take some newer ones. We feel used. Morale is way down. Maybe we dont recover from this. I hate that Verizon made me feel like a pawn. I trusted them and they treat me like this.
1nrc, based on your logic, would a company not be running the risk of a lawsuit, from the opposite side?
If the whole thing was done under false pretences, as you claim, would that not be so transparent as to trigger the very thing that was, in your mind, trying to be avoided?
I’m sure many young people, people without as much time, and at a lower paygrade, were chosen as well, just as RIFs contained a wide array of people under differing circumstance in terms of age, pay, tenure.
Ever pause long enough to consider the possibility that it’s all on the up and up?
-1cuy, in my workgroup, or VP said our org was under headcount, and not originally included in the VSP. She opted us in because she thought “it was the right thing to do”. So, they were never looking to make cuts from our workgroup.
My whole thing is if you were never intending on letting somebody leave with the offer, then why even make it? The reason is to me is clear, it was to let the more tenured and expensive employees walk out the door without risking age discrimination lawsuits, and the lower tenured people were used as pawns to help them play their game
OP, if what you’re alleging were true, wouldn’t that just mean there would instead still be accusations of age discrimination perpetrated on the opposite group, on those not allowed to be beneficiaries of a program open to “all”?
Therefore, your false contention holds little validity. It was likely done incredibly fairly.
Age discrimination is illegal. However, wage discrimination is not. Older people make more, and young people make less. It's a super easy loophole.
Someone in my group in 65 and got denied. She should have at least been asked to stay but to deny her is wrong.
I’m under 40 & I was accepted. I think it’s more to do with your job function
Plenty of takers under 50 in my group got accepted.
@eau - in my opinion, longevity means "we still need to use you until we can't use the sh*t out of you anymore". I hope most people who are denied are not patting themselves on the back as being truly "needed" for the "needs of the business".
54and denied
Nearing that myself. I got it. Be glad they got rid of their target. That means you have longevity, whatever that means.
I know people under 50 that were accepted. This may vary by org.
I feel for ya.. that’s just wrong! Good luck to you.
That is exactly what it was designed to do. Looks like all over age 50 who pressed got accepted.
