The email from Jeff, apparently, spoke of management positions only. If you are not located in one of the 10 states mentioned, does that mean you are safe from layoffs?? Also any rumor of craft layoffs? Incentive offers?

@wtc - shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, they literally said it - several times - that they are phasing out all remote workers and want everyone in the office full time.

Employee's outside of the "hub" locations will be the initial targets as well as trying to get eligible retiree's. If those numbers pan out (doubtful) then they move to phase II and start targeting hub city employee's. Rumor has it, if your in a hub city and work remotely, you will be a target as well. Don't be surprised if they try to start forcing everyone back to a full time office worker.

Um, I'm in one of those hub cities and my organization was given pre Christmas warning in the middle of December that we would be affected. This was not good considering we've already been affected as an organization (global infrastructure provisioning) for the past three years and the last three quarters directly affected mobility (read that as the seed of margin, folks).

The 'we are no longer a telecommunications company' internal attitude scares me both as an employee within a telecommunications company and as anyone that might have thought they were investing (stock) in such a company that is no more. Do I now buy some other telecommunications company's stock (eg Verizon)?

Ask yourself this, if ATO has been trimming the so called fat since 2014 and AT&T spending in excess of of cool one hundred billion dollars since 2015, how is it that those decisions having translated into a better stock price? Seems those making the decision are making questionable decisions.

@ggp, I don’t think all 10 of those are considered hubs. Only Dallas, San Antonio, Los Angeles, Bedminster NJ, and Atlanta.

10 hub cities in the states, how many in other countries? Condensing to bots ND limited people in a few locations is a plan for sure, is it a good plan? Does not look like it from my vantage point.

I believe the lump sum extension is related to pension. That is separate from severance and I would expect the normal severance package to be in effect , even if you take the pension lump sum extension.

There are 10 hub cities - there is a wiki listing them on the map... Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, St Louis, NJ, Oakton VA, Denver, El Segundo, San Ramon, Seattle WA

Interesting wording in Mcelfresh's email. I interpret this as AT&T suggesting you should voluntarily take the lump sum enhancement by 3/31/19 WITHOUT the traditional 6 months' severance pay. I think AT&T does not plan to give those leaving the lump sum enhancement AND 6 months severance pay. AT&T thinks the lump sum enhancement alone is sufficient incentive to leave. They may force the issue by notifying people in March that they will be gone by the end of April (without the lump sum enhancement) in hopes some will elect to voluntarily take the lump sum enhancement 3/31/19.

@fvj, I agree- they are just hoping eligible retirees will go on their own quick.

@WX0yXHg-tyy - that's not how I read it. All it says is that eligible employees will be extended the 2018 interest rates if they elect to take their pension lump sum by March 31st. It does not say anything about a severance package or voluntary surplus.

Yeah, pleading with eligible retirees to go first, warning of upcoming layoffs over next weeks and for several months. Wording shows targets are those not in hub cities.

Not sure there is enough time for a Voluntary Offer. If notification goes out later this month (i.e. 24th/27th) then your 60 day clock begins to be off payroll by End of March.

so in this vague letter I've deciphered that they're pushing another voluntary surplus with those who participate be off payroll by March 31st, 2019? Anybody read any different?
