It seems to always be a few people here, a few people there, or maybe just one department or location being affected... What I'm wondering is when will we have another major culling that'll affect the entire company... We all know it's coming... I'd just like to know when to be prepared...

@1xjg, what are you blathering about? Russians, secrets, American flag! Get a grip Boyo, get a grip!
@1bab, think I’ll have to give you points for that post. Most of us, except for "dumb Gump stupid" perhaps, gain our experience through those that are ‘more experienced.’ I have several ‘go to’ people in a pinch and I, in turn, have been someone’s source of expertise, this is how things are....I’d go so far as to call it mentoring.
I worked with a Boomer and she was as smart as they come. She once said that she was recruited out of a two year college and, along with her Creds, was asked just one thing, "Can you continue to learn new things, new technology and continue to grow with the company?"
She would say "when you stop learning, you’re of no use to the company." Sounds harsh but reality often is. The question is: How many employees were surplussed because they simply stopped learning, or growing with the company?
For those of us in the Southeast, lay offs for the 1st quarter of 2019 will be announced on December 15. Great Christmas present from Randy.
I’m trying to figure the range of your ignorance
This has to be the same nasty blowhard that posted some nutty $hit in a thread about the pension interest extension. He started off trying to bait people into posting the text of the company e-mail on the subject so he could find people revealing vital company secrets to competitors (and probably the Russians), and finished up waving the flag when he didn't know what a Vail award was. Ignore him and perhaps he'll find someplace else to spew his misery and criticize other peoples' work ethic (on company time).
Wow, what a sad little man you are, I sure struck a nerve didn’t I? The real irony is that you are mentored every day, none of us have all the answers and quite often we have a "go to" person to get the answers, probably you more than most! That self serving ego and il temper of yours definitely needs to feed off the knowledge of others.
As for listening to others talk about how things used to be done....ok, you make a point, but don’t make yourself out to be special. If you haven’t done it already, you probably will and won’t even recognize it....it’s just the natural order of things.
Your "dead weight" rant was quite amusing (by the way, if you really need to "vomit" might I suggest a trip to the doctors office) because you seem to have tunnel vision, that it’s only the Social Security crowd that have this affliction, oh Grasshopper, how little you know!
Yes, dead weight exists and always has. But unfortunately you’re the kind of person that never sees the background of those around you, young or old. A 65 yr old woman (Manager) put off retirement, worked with a 40 yr old who had MS, her mind was sharp but hands wouldn’t work any longer. The manager typed in all her work (along with all her own work) until SSDI could kick in....it was 14 months of double duty, and I have a news flash....she didn’t work bankers hours! But because Of tunnel vision, you would never see that and you would want her out the door.
You just can’t see the forest for the trees Kimosabi, and if you’re fortunate (as you near retirement) I mean really really fortunate....you won’t be anyone’s "dead weight," but if I were you, I’d get used to the inside of a doctors office! As I said " it’s just the natural order of things."
Mr "range of ignorance ". I wonder where within the company you are. I almost had to vomit when I read "taught and mentored" was performed by you and peers. I've been in many groups where I have to listen to how things use to be done instead and watch where you stand around being useless and care more about six weeks vacation isn't enough since you spend the same amount at the doctors. (Now 12 weeks I don't have to sickened seeing you waste payroll ) The company hasn't trained in years /decades to save money and the only mentoring is a newsletter. I will agree I thought hard work was awarded but my stomach hurts when I see so much dead weight that should have been pushed out years ago that brag what they've done and now complains they are asked to work all day. Do everyone a favor and go home so some of us can move the company forward and aren't as lazy. You should be collecting social security. You've earned it
@1gqs, I’m trying to figure the range of your ignorance. I’m guessing somewhere between dumb Gump stupid and just plain short sightedness.
The Boomers, the ones you want to start collecting Social Security, because you’re under the illusion it will save your job, are assuring that you will probably keep it, though i give no guarantees in your case. The generation that came before us, taught, mentored and helped us reach the next level. We Boomers have mentored many in the same manor to the generations behind us, and so it will continue in just that way.
Everyone who gets cut always says the exact same thing, "I had great reviews, every single year and the other guy didn’t!" Truth is, no one knows that, they are guessing, they are justifying and haven’t a damn clue how they stacked up to the ones that survived and stayed.
Maybe two people had the exact same rating and one lost the coin toss. I don’t know and if your time comes, you certainly won’t either. But sometimes kimosabe, it just comes down to attitude, and I’ll bet your boss noticed yours already!
Very nice, see you in the unemployment office
Rumor confirmed. Business team surpluses in December.
We all had a call today where we told 10 to 40 percent would be cut in different groups. What is shameful is the severance package is just few months pay and the company is making billions in profits. Even more c-appy is there are some that can collect social security but refuse to go while the future of the company is being fired. The company culture supports dead weight that are lazy and feel they earned that right due to decades of service
Prepare NOW to be surplussed. It’s just a matter of time. Ratings, rankings and performance don’t mean a thing. It’s all about a numbers game.
@qou, well said and it does make sense. It might also explain how they bypass the W.A.R.N. Act
Business team had a call today. Rumor is it’s a surplus notice.
Notifications In January...
That's not how they do it (affecting the entire company). They are done by business group/ VP organization, and the surplus events rotate between those groups (they are not all done at the same time). They do it this way to avoid cutting at the same time all at once across multiple organizations and thus minimizing their bad PR... by having multiple smaller events as opposed to a huge one involving multiple thousands of employees at the same time.
