Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

EFFECTS OF MERGING TEAMS?

Due to the re-organization, my team is to be merged under Oracle cloud infra and we have to eventually follow their own implementations if the OC.I head says so.

So worst case, how does merging similar teams work? Target the higher management or anyone in my team should beware??!

It depends upon the state you are in, whether or not recording conversations is illegal.

It's illegal to record conversations as suggested here. Don't go there- don't get fired for cause and face civil and criminal penalties.

I would probably characterize it as not so much a merger as an acquisition, handled with the same care as all Oracle acquisitions.

I have started recording all conversations I have without telling anyone. I am older with health problems. Get a digital recorder with a good microphone, something that works to 40 feet and you can put it in your pocket and still capture the conversation. They usually have a USB connection you can just quickly plug into your computer and download each conversation afterwards.

Make sure you document as much as you can in writing. Send emails to your manager detailing what you are currently doing, any issues you are having, etc. Anything you can put in writing to document what you are doing can be helpful.

Age discrimination is against the law. If you are doing good work, document that. Don't get upset at anyone. Recording yourself will keep you on your toes as you are speaking with anyone to make sure you are level headed in all interactions. If you are being lied to or harassed, you will have what you are being told recorded.

I strongly suggest recording everything.

Been there done that, you have no choice but to use the OCI implementation whether it works or not. OCI is now King with DJ running all cloud.

team merging is only done for cannibalizing another manager's team, so the manager can advance on the food chain more money/less work. it is a sick environment.

I would expect that they will look carefully at the ages of employees and their salaries when they move people around.

Last time they reorged in my area, they put most of the older people in one group. They were not able to work together and had to work separately with groups in India. Trying to get them to leave, I think. Some of them have left.

I was older also, but was put in another group where they said they "didn't have enough senior people". I was then attacked and harassed until I left. I don't know if that was the original plan? I did very good work, got 4's and 5's on my reviews for years, got huge bonuses, and then nothing. Manager I was assigned to, would not assign work to me.... I expect he was saying that I was not doing any work. I then went out on a limb and wrote a new application to replace another application that I was told was worst application in its area. Just caused more harassment and project given to others who then destroyed it, either deliberately, because I wrote it, or because they were all so incompetent that they could not possibly continue.

It's a very sick place. You may feel safe where you currently are, but you can be moved anywhere and have no choice about it. Management can do anything they want to get rid of the older people. Unless you can prove that you are being harassed BECAUSE you are in a protected group, you can't sue. I endured some severe harassment, nothing against the law about it. Your co-workers can literally do anything they want to you with no consequences. Particularly if the management above them just wants to get rid of senior people, and they don't want to know the details. They just want the older people gone.

Those who raised voices and were critique of mgmt., were shown the door, recently in my BU. Boy, what a dictatorship! Hitler would love this org.

Oracle has this only last chance to revive as it restructures, by cutting flab (mgmt) to size. Or, it will be another Kodak story, and a good case for mgmt schools, as how a titanic can go down. Hold on, the schools already have list of such cases then why no corporate lessons learnt? Its all about money, honey!

too many incompetent chiefs sitting around in meetings nodding their heads at each other.

Sounds like a continuing disaster. The wrong people will get laid off. The people nodding their heads to the manager and destroying the company will stay!! Totally corrupt system working to get rid of the competent and experienced people in favor of the head-nodders!!

What VuFtdEk-vuw posted is correct.

I was one of those folks whose team was re-org'ed/merged with a couple of different teams. Needless to say, the first ones to go are the those that actually did real work and those that had the years in experience. For some reason, I managed not to be let go. The managers of course, get to stay and totally muck everything that was working before. Definitely check Aria everyday and you'll start seeing the byproduct of said re-org.

Oracle is a very dysfunctional company to say the least. As they say, "too many chiefs, not enough Indians" (Indians here being the Native American kind and not the other type).

First step in the Reorg is to move people around and scramble teams. Second part is to lay off people, so you don't notice the fact you don't see them any more. Only way to track this is to screen shot Aria before and after and do head counts at the manager level, before and after the Reorg.
