Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The Verizon Layoff threads are the same as AT&T’s

They are constantly worried about everything that we are. Same complaints on upper management,

Union gripes (seniority and the like). Many of their abbreviated acronyms are different but mean the same, we call them mass surplusses but they will use RIFs (Reduced in Force) and not too strangely, many of the same Trolls travel back and forth between sites using the same exact Thread or Reply in sentences verbatim.

They gripe of the inferior products they sell, bthe services they provide their customers and how “the other departments” don’t do their jobs and force the workload back on them! On VZ Layoffs, just on Sunday they are showing the anxiety of job discrimination, the Rule of 75, severance packages &

Pension concerns.

I wonder what I would see if I looked under the “hood” of all the other competitors layoff sites. My point is, it’s not always greener somewhere else. If we get surplussed along the way, don’t expect that you will leave the old grievances behind....those of us that survive, maybe we count our blessings.

If you don’t believe me, take a stroll over to VZ Layoffs for a few days and see what I mean.

This is one of the problems with letting companies get huge enough to dominate an industry - no competition means higher prices, fewer choices and fewer jobs, it's bad for everyone except the companies.

Telecom is dead invest in a different field if possible . Might not be a good idea to stay put just cause you think its worse elsewhere.

@eym, you sure went and did it, and I was having such a nice day! I’m an end of career Boomer and to think that now I have to envision this ‘live at home’ Millenial Whimp, who can’t put one single sentence together without his LOLs, question marks, name calling, foul mouth all in under twenty words and to think he managed to do that with in his 15 seconds of fame, and was proud of it.

You have a right to be worried about your Social Security Benefits, as do I.

I’m a borderline Gen X/Millennial and every so often my friends (one from T-Mobile and Comcast) gather and trade ‘War Stories’ from our past few work weeks. I believe we try to “outdo” each other with rumors/verifiable truths.

We all agree on just one thing, for the time being it’s better to be where we all are!

@psv, enough with your childish LOL’s, I never said, or indicated, that either company had the right to treat their employees the way they have. I was talking to the ADULTS in this thread who have the knowledge & experience to understand that we work in a business world, for large business companies.

These same adults understand, hopefully, that we (the employee) are an economic decision, a commodity on a business ledger. Our days were numbered (more than they already were) the moment Corporate heads got whiff of increased tax breaks. If you thought, for even one moment any differently then your not stupid, just seriously naive!

Companies like T or Verizon try for the perfect balancing act, very few succeed...sell product and services, keep customers, employees and stockholders all happy at the same time. When that isn’t possible, guess what? Whether we work for T, Walmart or the local grocer we are all “At Will Employees.”

If we leave voluntarily, or surplussed out, the grievances we thought were left behind may well resurface with the next. If you believe Comcast is your heaven on earth, check out their Layoff board. I wish you a long career Grasshopper, I really do, my Social Security (sad to say) may depend on you.

Yea yea yea, Verizon is just as poorly managed as ATT,we get it, two companys playing monkey see monkey do ! .You know who is doing well ? Comcast ! Why ? Because they believe in their network to generate money , so they nurture it, they grow it ,they invest in it, and they reap the profits. All without splurging on new companys that are coveted and then abondend the way ATT does.I think it is sad that this company is very profitable in one giant area and then with the invention of the smart phone by Apple they throw out the technology that has been a huge win for the last 70 years and chase the new hot, always evolving, and never standardized silicon valley big win idea of the day ! We need a change alright, but we need it at the top !
