Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Turnover

So many people are leaving. I'm wondering if turnover is higher than expected. Has anyone heard anything on this?

Below poster, (and this is not a sarcastic response), you’re right. Maybe the job isn’t right for you anymore and that is why it can’t be done, so instead of expecting humana to change it for you, you need to either accept it’s not the right job for you, or accept the job. The job has morphed from when we all started, corporations change things differently than other work places, like a hospital, and, you’re right. Thank you for putting it that way, it gave me clarity. I am right for this job. I can do it.

@TysGhqX-6dnv 100% agree. For some folks it's time to find a position more suited to their abilities.

What BH classes are you taking?

I’m always so surprised to read the constant complaints of “pressure, unrealistic, terrible, hostile..” work environments again and again on this site. It’s like a sickness in itself. I have not met a single leader at Humana that is purposely attempt to create these conditions nor is anyone holding you here against your will. It’s not healthy to have these thoughts and feelings. If you stay and endure this “abuse” maybe you need help leaving.

Today I have 2 meetings...that is two hours at least away from calls. We are having ongoing BH classes and meetings. Each meeting takes away 1-2 contacts in that day.

I agree with that, the influx of BH is changing the dynamic of the job, and that impacts calls....and, to the poster who is insistent on studies backing up their claim....maybe some of us don’t miss anything and it’s condescending of you to assume that we do

HCM RN here.... I now have a roster of 338 members. Yes, half of them are in monitored status, but we still receive post discharge and IVR alerts for these members. Also, in my opinion, members have more complex needs and BH issues. All of these issues require more time. Eight hours is not enough time to do this job thoroughly.

It is not nasty or condescending. It is a fact. It has been studied and studied. This is not an opinion. Yet ppl continue to say I can consistently get 8 calls in. and it is true. You can consistently get 8 or more calls in. But when it is studied, in every case - not most, every one, things were missed. Therefore it is also a studied fact that, whether you know it or not, when you say you can consistently get 8 calls in an 8 hour day, you are missing things.

@5sem....wow, that was nasty and condescending of you to say

It is such a shame anyone is speaking to numbers of contacts. Sure anyone can call and speak to 8, 9, 10 or more mbrs a day. When this is constantly done what happens is the mbrs get less and cost go up. This is because things are missed - WITHOUT EXCEPTION. So for those of you who say you can do it. Sure - you can miss things and get more calls in. This has been studied and is an absolute fact. When nurses rush through things are missed that are caught by more conscientious nurses who are taking time to allow mbrs to express their concerns.

What dept has to get 8

Not sure that 8 contacts in a 8 hour day is unreasonable. Sure some days maybe harder with a meeting but I see it as reasonable. I make my numbers and attend meetings. I do have to stay focused.

The coaches are probably very nice people. Many of them were one of us at one time and most of them probably recognize that these demands and expectations are unrealistic . But their job is to manage HCM RN's..... And there is a lot of turn over and dissatisfaction in the HCM RN ranks, And turnover is going to cost Humana a lot of money. Coaches you are our supervisors!! I do not feel you are effectively communicating to your management that what is expected is unreasonable. That is your job coaches. You took this job...your HCM RN's are unhappy and leaving!!! You all want to be managers....well then manage.

I would be out of here if it weren't for my coach. I am wondering if there are a few awful coaches and the posters here are on those same teams. We do not get threatened on our team. As far as the "metrics", it is about quality calls and our quality audit scores. If you are getting great audits and have the expected "talk time", you should not be harassed. MPS is a factor too, of course. The only thing I can figure is your coach is sub-par and is getting chewed out by her COM. The #### rolls downhill. I am hanging in there but I do agree that the mandatory training, CBTs, and meetings are ridiculous!

Threats of PIP’s and the usual coaching threats. Total BS. I would welcome a lay off or termination at this point.

So what are they doing if you can't meet metrics? Are they firing people now? They don't need to because everyone is quitting

When we went hourly we asked how metric requirements may be effected. Mgmt told us theyd see how it would pan out and then re-evaluate. To this date no changes to requirements have happened. We have had to forego breaks, use OT, or work "undetected" for any lose ends. Humana is still getting free work. And still running us ragged. No new hires in sight.

We have gone to hourly employees now so what do they expect. We can’t make same numbers and go to all these meetings. Don’t stress they made their own bed now and Humana has to lie in it. Humana was getting a lot free time from us.

Does the nonsense ever end? Last week I had a meeting or training everyday, sometimes twice a day. The shortest one was an hour, while others crept toward 2 hours. Then we have to hear that we need to be making more calls because metrics are suffering. Spend an hour or longer on a CICO issue and have to do follow ups with support calls. Make calls laser focused and get straight to the point, but make sure you have plenty of talk time. This has to be the most back and forth job I have ever had. I am over it, this place is trash.

It is Sunday night and I dread the start of a new week. I have been an HCM RN for over 9 years. What is being expected of us now is so unreasonable. The mostly worthless classes we have to take; the meetings we have to attend; the surveys we have to complete; and the matrix we have to meet...are making this job probably the worst job I have had in over 30 years of nursing. The only advantage is that we work from home ...but even that is now not enough. I will be giving two weeks notice in a month. I would have remained if I saw some humanness in my coach or COM. But my coach just keeps piling it on and still expects us to participate in frivolous team activities because it makes her look good. For the sake of the remaining HCM RN's...please coaches be the spokes person you told our team you would be when you were hired into that position.

So glad im gone and i love my new job. I know the expectation of my new job which has not changed every day or over the last 6 months and they value employees with many perks like bonus twice a year, better pay, and much better wellness program for their employees. If members dont want to participate in the program, I dont have to lie and scheme to keep them on my case load or keep calling bugging them. I hate that Humana made us do that!

I wish all the ones wanting to leave good luck in finding a new postions they are out there. I was so scared and relunctant to leave Humana but now i just wished I would have done it sooner.

If you’re that burned out it’s probably best to try to find another position. No job is worth your health. Good luck !

Don’t make me go back!! I don’t know if I can do even one more week at this insane hcm job. The stress level is literally killing me. If they would just take the expectations down a notch. They would have happy , healthier members and happier, healthy staff who don’t want to leave. I am sick of having to rush members through survey after survey just to meet unrealistic metrics. We are all burned out and the quality is going down. what a shame. No time for anything. No time for CEU’s, license expectations, education!! Our coach is burned out and does not care anymore.

I agree, the pressure is intense. Hopefully, it will ease up, but if more leave, it may get worse....I’m an hcmss, there’s less than 90 of us left at this point.

I thought that's what the layoffs were for. I'm torn. I like my team right now and have been with Humana for 6 years. I just don't know what to do. The changes are too much. I really feel like they are playing a game with all of us. Good luck to everyone looking for another job
