Truth to THIS: On top of that, there was a decision to go cheap on layoffs by waiting on certain sales folks to resign after July's commission payments.

Its the same in USA. The July 16th two-week NOTICES will come in like gangbusters.

There has been layoffs in EMEA, mostly ES and A&C. Also OCS is restructuring cutting jobs and offshoring their functions to Romania and India. Some other people are now on Garden Leave which usually lasts 2-3 months. On top of that, there was a decision to go cheap on layoffs by waiting on certain sales folks to resign after July's commission payments.

Good luck to everybody

Fake posts are used to discredit valid information, derail pertinent topics and encourage arguing/insults back and forth...all to make it more difficult to find the actual information we all are looking for. Don't feed the trolls!

While I have been laid off last week, I do not believe there will have one massive layoff in one go. It will be group by group, location by location and spread over a long period.

I must admit that the 31st May prediction wad bang on in my case, but at the scale of O, it was not that many people.

I hope that all the good people let go got a good severance package and will soon find an exciting new job.

I think it's entirely possible, but Oracle is all over the place. I suspect they don't know when they are going to lay off who.

There are bound to be more layoffs, cloud has failed, people will be laid off. Hard to know exactly when.

Plz guys, it's not funny. We are talking abt ppl loosing jobs. It's truth that there are headcount reduction.... And that reduction is not in single digits. This time it is in double digits, some of these jobs maybe backfilled but not all.

Be sensitive and respect ppl who have lost or abt to loose jobs-you can be one of them.

When August 31 passes, I bet you'll be promising a September 31st date.

Gezzz, if you can just guess, do the needful and get off the board.

I think JF was fired because he couldn't deliver the growth he promised. Also, he did lay people off Jan 2017. IIRC he left shortly after that. At first Systems was reorged under a Storage VP (that was when S12 was killed and replaced with 11.4), then a few months later Storage was moved under ES and they had their big layoff. When Systems was moved under ES the handwriting was on the wall.

@TsTuykv-1kvz — re: JF’s marching orders. So JF was supposed to lay off former Sun people in dribs and drabs (to avoid WARN), but he wouldn’t do it? So when he left/was forced out and his org was moved to ES, then Oracle did it in one fell swoop on 9/1/17?

It’s death by 1000 little layoffs. The only reason the larger WARN notice RIFs occurred last year was because JF didn’t follow through on marching orders ... and something had to be done to that pesky HW/storage/server drag to the bottom line. Who knew the cloud could be built from HW when we all know automated databases will take over and customers will flock to our SW offerings (cloud, non-cloud and vapor ware).

"Wonder if they’ll use ES on a mass con-call again?"

Look at it this way: The Storage and Systems teams were reorged to ES after JF got his walking papers, the monster layoffs came afterwards. This was essentially how the Systems people knew the ax was going to swing, as storage had just got whacked (in June) when Systems was reorged under ES.

Actually, there WAS a big layoff on September 1, 2017. And this year, Aug. 31 is a Friday...the start of a long holiday weekend in the U.S. (Labor Day). If Oracle wants to bury news of a significant RIF, that would be a perfect day to do it. Wonder if they’ll use ES on a mass con-call again?
