Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Retirements

I heard a lot of people suddenly retired with end-of-June retirement dates because of the change in GATT rate would make the lump sums drop. I heard some went down in the 50k range. Mine hardly dropped at all, I don’t know why.

I don’t know if it was a smart move to jump out or not, everyone’s circumstances are different, but I would say that if you were going to retire this year anyway, then OK. But, if you had planned on working a few more years, then to jump because of 50k isn’t a good idea.

The OP is correct. If you were going to retire at the end of the year anyway and are taking the lump sum then you would basically be working half a year for free if your lump goes down 40-50k this month.

@eex: Sorry, you are right. Union members have no right to use this forum since they cannot be laid off.. Also sorry that you weren’t smart enough to skip over a post that doesn’t interest you and was clearly headed “Retirements.”
