RIF and Death

RIF and death are similar because they both are certain but timing is uncertain.

RIF is better than death because there is a second chance along with some money on the table!

What do you guys think?

RIF and death are pretty close sometimes. In fact sometimes too close.

I was in an earlier class of over 50 riffees ushered out the door. Great severence: not; the had cut it down from historic levels. Outsourcing was more like an AA self-help group. There is no question that there is age discrimination. After a year of looking and at least a thousand job applications: three interviews, and six years away from social security. Uber lifts from your pocket when unemployment runs out.

Death does look pretty good at that point when it all seems pointless.

But if you can still hang on, and don't give up - there comes the perfect job at the same exact price you left at, except in an environment where institutional knowledge is prized.

So don't give up no matter how dark it looks. Use LinkedIn regularly. Re-establish all of your old contacts. Good luck.

I've been through three different RIFs with this company in less than three years working for them. Take it from me, things have to fall completely apart for better things to fall together sometimes. Each time I've been RIFd I've ended up with a better opportunity available and often times a pay raise. Your darkest days are sometimes the start to your greatest hours. Don't lose hope and try your hardest and just know that things can always be worse so what you have in front of you can only be appreciated. If you got RIFd you have the chance to do anything. Take chances, be proactive, stay positive. Life goes on.

Auto Correct here. Please don't call me stupid.

I have to deal with the incessant misspellings of ignorami on a consistent basis and, every so often, I slip up.

How about cutting me some slack, okay?

I'm only human. Well, not human, but derived from the intellect of my programmer human handlers.

So, piss off.

It is true that both are inevitable. Are you OK??? There are a lot of us out here who got rif'd. Some did better than others afterwards. Seek professional help if you are one who is not faring so we'll...

This was the most depressing post to date. Are you ok? There are hotlines for people in your condition.
