FWIW, SuperClusters and MiniClusters are still selling, so it isn't exactly "no one"

Who will be using this wonderful operating system?

No-one. It's over. It's no longer open sourced, although Oracle use open source components as the actual new features. No-one is developing apps for it. Oracle don't even port their apps to it. No-one will be re-certifying their apps and workloads to upgrade Solaris.

This dot release will be as relevant as a new release of MVS, AIX or HPUX.

"Oh, so you’re telling us that unless it’s posted in The Register it can’t be true?"

Read carefully: "and other media"

If you have a link to any journal that that says that Fujitsu wants to buy what is left of Sun, please feel free to post it here.

If there was any credibility to the Fujitsu rumor there would be articles in The Register and other media.

Fascinating. How are you planning on doing this now that most of the Sun developers are gone?

And what company in their right mind would buy a proprietary Unix OS these days?

IF there is a Solaris 12, I suspect it is just a clean up of bugs. More Marketing than OS.

stop trolling, noone believes you. "up in the company" uh?!? meaning you clean the roof?

listen, I will tell you: I'm part of the internal Solaris panel. so now you should know me, let's have a coffee monday morning in the conf room we tipically use and discuss this Solaris 12 thing.....

but of course you will not show up.

there is no plan for anything called Solaris 12.

there will be no Solaris 12 announcement, not in two weeks nor in two years. there will be only annual dotted release of Solaris 11 until 2019

I work high up in the company and will leave it at that. I can confirm this is not fake news and will come to pass although the exact timeline is TBD.

this is not just a fake news. this is simply something completely invented by the OP to start a trolling thread. I think most of the answers in the thread are from the OP.

there is no such thing as Solaris 12. we sometimes still refer internally to Solaris 12, mainly for some internal nightly builds, simply because this was the Solaris Next when we started the project. that's just an old wording, even the internal nightly builds are Solaris 11.4

Solaris 12 announcement is simply a pure invention of the OP. in june/july we will release Solaris 11.4, our next dotted release. and in june/july 2019 we will present Solaris 11.5, our last release before the freezing (another nice and polite word to say closing) and the switch to sustaining-only.

Fujitsu couldn't care less about Solaris, they are not interested in buying anything from Oracle, least of all what is remaining of our system group.

they have an already started project to present in late 2020 the new M series based on ARM and Linux. the current Solaris 11.4 and future 11.5 release is just enough for them for the current IB and then move everything to the new M14 generation. this has been already agreed with us, a couple of VPs including BN have already discussed the roadmap with Fujitsu and already signed the agreement. and Fujitsu was strong enough to force Oracle to include in 11.5 a tool for the migration to linux for ARM (of course beacuse also Oracle is interested given we have started our own ARM project).

This will all happen and occur through Fujitsu, the transition will start late this year and the release in 2019.

Now this is funny. Really funny. What's the last new workload that's been put on this turd of a system? People may just flock to the sales teams to buy this one though... game changer I'm sure... hope they are ramping up production... But what sales team do you call? Server team's been decimated. Humm...

Please don't feed trolls. the OP is just trying to discredit this board with a completely false news.

I work in the Solaris team, there will be nothing like a Solaris12

The beta S11.4 has been released in jan

In June/July we will release the official S11.4

Every year in FYQ1 (june/july) we will release a new dot release, so S11.4 in 2018, S11.5 in 2019, S11.6 in 2020, and so on, as you can see here: https://blogs.oracle.com/solaris/oracle-solaris-114-open-beta-refreshed

S12 it's simply not existant

Solaris 12 was canned.

If there's anything to announce it will be yet another announcement for Solaris 11.4, which has already been announced at least three times.

Yawn.

Surely it would be Solaris 18 to align the numbering with all other products adopting the brilliant new scheme.

Wouldn't be surprised if they make the announcement but never actually deliver 12 at all. You can't count on Oracle announcements, they lie all the time.
