Are we to start getting the dreaded emails tonight. For layoff tomorrow to be announced at the Thursday meeting? Is this the one based on our coaches rankings, or is that one expected later?

4:45 EST came and went and no confidential email. 4:45 PST and still no confidential email. Also checking UPS daily and no package notification. We will see what is said (Or not said...as it is usually necessary to read between the lines) tomorrow at the Town hall meeting. I don't doubt that layoffs are coming soon. Thankful for this site and those who are transparent and honest. Another day at Humana is both a blessing and torture. Wishing for the best for everyone.
I'm HCM and had 2 separate new to me members complain about how many different nurses they've had in just a few months time today. What do you say? "I've been with the company for 2 years so you should be settled with me"? I can't say that because I can't bring myself to lie to anyone. I don't know if I'll even be the same person calling them next month.
@RgqAThd-1qvt And i'm not here to be nice when I get dumped on. We get that Humana is a corporation. What I want to know is why do we have to carry the brunt of it when they make god awful decisions. Not that long ago our sh-- didn't stink. Now we are the sh--.
I feel you, below poster. Just introduced myself to a reassigned member today and noticed in the notes, he told his last PHC his biggest barrier is that he doesn’t handle change well -change causes him great emotional stress.
So here I am, his third PHC in less than a year...
PHC here. All I could think about, all day long, was how badly I feel for these faithful HAH members who have tolerated being moved around to as many as five different PHCs in the past 11 months. These are the people who still answer the phone, by the way, being treated like disposable items, and I feel like absolute garbage introducing myself as their new care manager when I know it is likely to be just another impending change for them. Even the ones I was just forced to move up to a nurse have no guarantee of remaining with that HCM-RN. These members have repeatedly seen how little they are valued in terms of relationships, which is the core of care management, and it breaks my heart.
They bought 40% of kindred, the money went there
To the poster who asked what happened to the billion Aetna gave us... a big chunk went here:
http://www.wdrb.com/story/34576920/humana-executives-cash-out-74-million-in-company-stock
Also, BB doubled his own salary and has a bigger jet travel budget. Meanwhile, I just want to put groceries on the table.
In a regional meeting BB did say that taxes took a large chunk and he said they put a lot into “infrastructure”.
Good question
@1wnb You said exactly what I have been thinking, and what I've used as the rationale to stay put-which is a decision I now regret. As a nurse, I am very undesirable in the clinical setting. And I'll be honest, I'm currently terrified. I keep telling myself that everything happens for a reason, but as the sole provider in my home, this has always been one of my worst fears.
lets not forget the 1 billion dollars that Aetna owed Humana since the merger never went through. Whatever happened to that money?
@1nb, same boat for the social workers!
Oh thanks B.B. Your company just got a hudge raise with this tax change and may or may not give us a raise in 2019 for 2018. We may get 4% on top of my base pay from 2016. If any of us are still here .Remember with this 2018 one time payment does not increase my base pay for 2018 . Thanks again
I’m a phc and I understand where you’re coming from.
@1wnb Exactly!
@1nkr, you're wrong. Jobs for nurses are not plentiful. We are the least marketable group of nurses ever. Hospitals pay nurses a base pay plus a percentage for each year of experience. Most then pay an additional amount for having a BSN. All of us here started with a minimum of a BSN and 5 years experience. Most have many more years than that. Simply put, we are almost all older nurses with lots of experience. You would think being experienced would mean we were more valuable right? Well wrong. A hiring manager will always pick the least experienced nurse to apply, they can pay them less. They also tend to be younger. They look at me compared to a new grad and they think I'm probably slow and not capable of using the EMR easily due to my age plus they have to pay me a premium because of my experience and degree? Then they look at new grad who is young and fresh out of school. Base pay, they assume more resilient to computer programs and probably not going to complain about crappy patient assignments because they don't know any better. Probably only has an ADN too. Top that off with the fact that since I've been doing telephonic for Humana for 5 years now I haven't actually touched a patient in that amount of time...well, honestly who would you hire?
Let's be real. Any company would have done the same thing. It's a corporation. They are not here to hold our hands and protect our feelings.
BB has to be aware that part of a program thru Humana, you know the part of Humana that was a big sell for the Aetna merge... would be dismantling. Be considerate... delay the "investing in you" email until after notifications
We may be 'but a tiny part' but his email still landed in our email and it still hurt. They made a choice because you don't matter. The fact is none of us matter once the Goliath has made a decision. At that point those affected are not considered part of the Humana Family.
Mr B. It's not your decisions which are obnoxious but the way you deliver them. Your disdain for those who have worked hard to reach the success you were chirping on about is seen by all. Also the news that Humana will be paying $15 per hour minimum. That's good news for the future workforce because Humana will be employing many many more people at that end of the scale. You know you are working for people who don't give a sh-- when they become target for a Walmart buyout. It's called a race to the bottom.
To be fair. BBs email went out company wide, not just HAH. We seem to forget we are but a tiny part of Humana not the whole thing. It would be silly of them to have to pick out all who are going to be laid off and leave them out. There are 50k associates. Our program is insignificant. The rest of the company must go on business as usual.
Below poster, yes they are! Plus, last town hall- wanting to retain nurses. Yes, retain, until their evil plan is unfolded and then it is bye bye nurses. You are no longer needed nurses. What did you think the whole plot for the Monitored was for? Helping mbrs at the right time- yes, but also to let HCM RNS go when HCM RNS are no longer needed. They are something else, alright.
How cruel and twisted of Humana to send an email out about investing in "us" when the plan is to let an entire department go
I am in a position to know before it's announced. That's all I can say. You can choose not to believe me, I understand. It's a hard thing to wrap your head around and accept. I am telling you so you can be prepared. Take the next week or so before you are given notice to spruce up your resume. Start applying for jobs. Look at this as an extra couple of weeks paid to do a job search. For the nurses being laid off, the jobs are plentiful. Some PHCs will have a little harder time to find work. I know some in the last 2 rounds are still looking. Don't get caught off guard. I'm not the first or only person to report the elimination of PHCs. Read past threads. Blinky and others also reported this. Good luck everyone.
I'm sorry poster but how do you know that ALL PHCs roles will be ending? I'm curious to know how you are privy to this confidential information?
Thank you good news & congrats!
the writing is and has been on the wall. Just be smart and get your self ready! I am a PHC that was laid off the last go around. I found a new job and I am so happy! No more torture, mental anguish or worry. Granted the benefits were amazing, but I am making a higher salary and I am not strapped to a computer all day. All those surveys.... ugh! Now I am interacting with patients and families-face to face. The grass is greener! Don't be afraid, consider this a blessing and an opportunity to advance your career! Good Luck everyone!
@1kwg - thank you. We need a dose of reality here because it is so easy to fall into denial, which is no good - if we need income, we need to be looking now, not later.
I really hope this is not end for PHC’s
I'm sorry but the hard truth is yes, ALL PHCs are being eliminated from Humana at Home. I am not sure of the date you all will be told, that is up to HR. But yes, sadly the entire role is ending. I wish I had better news. Make sure all your ducks are in a row and start applying now. Don't count on an internal position because as I've seen, it is rare for a RIFd employee to get hired internally. Most internal postings are a formality and the hiring manager has someone in mind when posting. i wish everyone the best of luck. You are not in this alone. Coms and coaches are out too. Humana screwed us all over.
Whatever happens, I wish everyone well- peace , good health and prosperity. It sounds like a cliche, but we are all the people who HELP, who want better for others, who went into healthcare, not because it's easy- but because we love and care. Stand proud. God speed.
I think we have to be careful not to use these meetings as a way to convince ourselves we are safe. We may be in for a rude awakening. It is human nature to say, “we have a meeting scheduled in 2 weeks, therefore they are keeping us.” However, let’s look at what has really been happening.
We - PHC’s - have been sending members to monitored, moving members to nurses. The rumor is Live Healthy is ending. Some of our coaches are pushing hard for us to update resumes and seek other opportunities. Nobody will deny that Live Healthy is ending. Care plan rollout pushed off with conflicting explanations. No new enrollments. A statement released to press about more layoffs. Layoffs every quarter since last Feb.
With everything that has occurred, I’d try to avoid falling into the trap of reading into meetings in order to feel safe.
The embracing change is one of those things from the education connection that you get, it’s part of a series related to better health, like the take 10 emails we get..I’m an hcmss, I signed up to take it two weeks ago, evidently, a coach mandated her team take it...there’s nothing to read into with it, it’s just one of those things they offer like IT Tuesday, scwhab info on retirement and diabetic foot care
If Live Healthy is ending, PHC’s are gone. Not safe.
If PHCs are safe, then why weren't we also mandatorily invited to the embracing change meeting the nurses were?
So you don’t think they are getting rid of the PHC’s?
Or was the meeting postponed (instead of canceled indefinitely), to avoid the questions that would come if it were simply canceled?
The original all PHC meeting has been scheduled since December... the invite clearly outlined the agenda. If the goal was to lay off the entire team of PHCs... I highly doubt the meeting would be rescheduled due to the Town Hall. In fact, I think the Town Hall meeting might have been postponed, not the other way around.
Best guess is they moved it so they can give notice prior to the meeting (and then cancel it later) or they will update on direction on 1/31 and then layoff immediately after. Only time will tell at this point.
There is definitely confusion! I don’t recall another layoff where an entire roll was eliminated and how that went down. In the past it was always a group of the “impacted” within a role or roles, not the entire position.
PHC’s are aware there are others getting cut as well. The question is, if the entire role is being eliminated (phc’s), would the “all phc meeting” update on that, or what’s the point of the meeting at all?
I think most are just trying to figure out when this will happen.
PHCs, there’s going to be other layoffs than you all, And I think there is some confusion in this thread about the different ways people may be told..if the PHCs are getting at the 1/31 meeting, or if everyone else gets the email, etc..
Sorry, below should say “the meeting will alert....”.
So is Jan 31 the date then? The meeting on Jan 31 will aler let us of the end of Live Healthy - anyone know?
I feel like I'm in a bad zombie movie. I can see that zombie a few hundred yards away, slowly making his way towards me. But every time I try to run the other way, I trip over my ridiculously high heels and fall down. And then it takes an inexplicably long time for me to stand up and try to run, only to fall down again. Yeah...that layoff zombie keeps getting closer.
