Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Thinking about doing this...

I'm planning on leaving in a month or two regardless, but hear me out. There is a mass exodus at our store. People are leaving in droves and we are so short on people it's not even funny. We recently lost a full timer who was also a key carrier (like myself), however, HR and the store manager practically begged this person to stay as long as possible, and offered a temporary "raise" (if that makes sense). I never thought raises were even possible but it was pushed through. This person agreed to tough it out until after New Year's and then left.

So, being that I am a full timer (doing MOD tasks in the process) and the store really can't afford to lose me when it can't hire anyone or keep anyone past the training period, let alone brace for another chunk of CSM/MOD coverage going away, I wonder what would happen if I put my two weeks in. Do you think I would be offered a similar concession? Has anyone heard of something like this at Sears? It sounds exploitative and I'm certainly not denying that it isn't, but at the end of the day I look out only for myself. Might as well get that temporary boost in pay before splitting, ya know? Who wouldn't?

Making your intentions known here probably wasn't the best thing to do. The corporate minions that read these posts are probably combing through the payroll trying to figure out who got the big raise at store level, and if the pattern repeats itself, nip it in the bud.

I had a similar situation although I planned to stay and not leave shortly anyway. Told my manager I was offered another job ( which was true) I received a $3 hr raise.

Well, I would say if this is your attitude then you really aren't worth it. I'm pretty sure your SM probably knows it too.

No one is above replacement and by the tone of your post neither are you. I would assume that with your attitude and obvious work ethic you could be replaced with a box of broken Craftsman wrenches and a few SYW points.

They have just been using you and then they will get rid of you. But I see you are doing their job for them and making it easier.

Whatever the case you probably should have tried first instead of posting first. This forum is anonymous but that doesn't stop its readers from putting things together and drawing their own conclusions about who you are.

As they say, no one is indispensable. Sears could care less. Walmart just gave raises.

@osg Pretty much what he said if your co worker got an offer are you as valuable as he/she is? If you are you can give you 2 week notice and see if they will work a deal with you.

It is possible to get raises because in my store they were a bit desperate with the someone to cover a department that no one would stay long enough. One of the co workers that was their for a while said she would take the position, but only if a raise was given. She got it (probably s---ed up and charmed her way at it as well). So yes it is possible to get a raise, dont expect something amazing, but you can get a raise depending how desperate they are.

I would not give my 2 week notice if I don't have a back up plan. If you do than go ahead give a shot. But as you know the company is sinking and if you think your ok getting a raise and see how much more the company can last than you can enjoy the raise for as long as it last. But remember the time is ticking.

Go for it, it won't work but hey what have you got to lose? The other guy was productive, he was important, are you? Seriously, are you? Can you do every job in the store? Are you irreplaceable? if not, don't do it, until and unless you have another job lined up.

You can try it. Just be prepared to leave if they don't come through with an offer.

it is best to find another job while still employed. you will make more money in your new job anyway
