It seems to me that the current sales teams have to use a lot of tricks to fill their quotas.

How are the new kids in the hub going to sell anything at all?

Or maybe the management doesn't think there is much to sell, so best to just cut costs and coast as long as possible?

Don't worry, Sun Solaris and Sparc and all the rest of Sun-legacy people. Oracle mgmt does not discriminate. They are going to lay off people across all the company units: Hardware AND Applications.

One of the largest segment of oracle dB users was customers using Solaris. That fact probably sweetened the deal back when that deal was done. Even before the deal closed, all we heard from customers calling in for Solaris support was “we are dropping Oracle now that they own Sun because Oracle s---s to deal with”. Past performance is indicative of future performance, in this case. Those customers knew how sinister Oracle is.

An article from 2015. This literally IS "old news". We've been harassing our best customers for years now. It's just one of several reasons most of them are running away from us as fast as they can. Nothing new to see here. Treating our customers like trash has been standard practice at Oracle for a long time.

The “we can’t (abd won’t) put it in writing” is always done “to protect the shareholders.” Shareholders = mainly Safra and her pearly, mafia enforced image and LE. The rest get the benefit.

THIS: "Throughout the audit we pressed Oracle for a document that gave specific guidelines and expectations for Oracle customers on VMware," the Oracle customer told us. "We got two answers. One, that the VMware guidelines were an internal policy and that it was not written, and two, that it was a written internal policy that is not available to customers ... I was told that it would be too much effort for Oracle to maintain such a document."

The “we can’t put it in writing” excuse from Oracle is a THEME both inside the company with employees and outside with clients and auditors. It’s also the ultimate RED FLAG that you are onto their scam.
