One Bad Coach after another

I have had 5 coaches in a short period of time everytiime one gets layoff I get worse one .Where those Humana find these people. They don't know how to manage people .

I always laugh whenever someone defends the coaches on here. You can claim they are micromanaged all you want but when I see my coach work an average of 4 to 5 hours a day, I have to doubt the veracity of that.

The direct supervisor does not have to be licensed as long as somewhere in the chain of command there is.

Below poster, agree with you that we should all try to consider what it would be like to walk in one another’s shoes before judging.

That said, assuming that associates who don’t respond well to micromanagement have something to hide is way off mark.

Some are independent, trustworthy professionals who resent having someone breathe down their neck and negatively or accusingly question every decision made.

Not all coaches are negative, accusatory micromanagers, but on the flip side, not everyone who resents being treated like a child is hiding something.

Walk a mile in your ciach’s Shoes and enjoy the misery. They are over managed as well. You have to remember coaches are one step up and on initial rung of management. And if you as a cm are doing your best work every day then who cares who is looking at it. People that cry micromanaging usually have something to hide or are doing something that short cuts and they should not be but it has become a way of life with all the changes. Everyone is in an uncomfortable position

Then it’s a requirement Humana doesn’t follow. Each coach has their credentials behind their name and I can think of 5-6 SNP coaches and Coms that are not nurses off the top of my head. PC, ML, JCD, KB, HN, BC and previously mentioned KC.

I’ve done some checking and if it is a clinical setting, it absolutely IS a requirement that it be a nurse, NP, PA, MD in the supervisory role. A situation where a nurse is doing assessments is one way to define clinical setting. HCM RN’s speaking with members over the phone assess the clinical picture, thus it’s Telehealth. I would imagine Humana skirts this by saying there is a medical director. Of course no HCM-RN that works at Humana could consult the medical director....lol

It’s not a requirement to be a nurse to be a manager/coach/com/director etc. KC is not a nurse. Several coaches and coms are not nurses.

Right. There’s good and bad, but maybe the HR algorithm system can’t decipher who is negative / micromanaging and who is a positive source of help and support to their reports.

Hence, some great ones gone and some (not all!) incompetent ones remaining.

I agree that there are great coaches still left but you have to know their hands are tied. . They have COMS

that they have to answer too.. I have been on 4 different teams in a year.. 3 different COMS, each one more concerned about numbers and metrics. Getting 10 sucessgul calls a day was not the norm anymore. . it was 10 and above!!

JCD SNP coach your team hates you. You are the reason everyone is quitting in your team. You micromanage because is obvious you are insecure and clueless and don't know the job. We all know you just do it to blame and pass to others. Stop being so scripted, stop micromanaging and learn the job. You are a MSW managing nurses your days are counted.

Agreed that there are good ones. I think the point was that a number of good ones were let go, and it is hard to wrap your head around it if you are reassigned to someone who may be negative, micromanaging, relying on threats, not welcome to reassignments, etc... It’s tough to have seen some good ones go.

I don’t doubt it. I agree that there are good coaches out there. Some are lucky to have a good coach & some get moved over & over. It’s exhausting.

I never speak up, but I have to on this. I have an amazing coach (knock on wood this does not change) and could not speak more highly. Don’t let the bad ones overshadow the great ones. Plus, as you can probably imagine they are all in a tough spot too and feel the pressure. We are all in this together!

Can’t agree more. Being new every time is bull. They should understand we have survived this long & give us a break. But Hah is a micromanagement type of place. Culture stinks. That won’t change.

I am more micromanaged with every reteaming. Most jobs, you earn trust with time and gain autonomy. The opposite has been true with this one. Every layoff and decimation of teams, every reassignment has made me “new” again and it’s exhausting.

My newest coach, she is not so thrilled to have new associates and it shows.

It sounds like all of this will be behind me soon, though, so there’s that.

Mine was great when I first started. After all these RIF’s, she has become very short with everyone and is hard to communicate with. Layoff or not, I’m actively searching for a new job.
