Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

What happened to behavioral health?

I’m a PHC and received a bunch of reassigned members with severe behavioral health issues. Did I miss a communication? Is behavioral health gone?

To the perpetually angry posters - if there was a communication I missed, please don’t flip out, I had to take some time off and am just returning. And yes, this is relevant to the site, as is every other reduction they make to HAH areas.

Once again, the below poster is spewing her conspiracy theory which has ZERO factual basis. HAH is not being phased out. There is no plan to phase us out. Unless you actually know something, which it's obvious you do not, stop being a jerk and spreading your worthless theories!

Behavioral Health has been eliminated. It went under the Health Services umbrella and is being restructured. Just as all of HAH. Be prepared! It is all going away and a new strategy and plan is being developed. HAH as we know it is being phased out.

You may be right but I would doubt they use this site to make decisions of any kind, if they read this site at all.

This whole thread is probably why HAH decided to cancel PHC care planning in January and start mental health training instead.

I hear you and agree, we need more behavioral health programs

Gotcha. Below poster, that sounds nice and tidy in theory, but in reality I find that calling members who have been receiving more in depth help prior to reassignment, with the “reminder to take meds and see their doctor” goes over like a lead balloon.

However if the day comes that a needier member with severe mental health issues responds to such advice with “awesome! I never thought to do that!” I will take back my words.

Because those behavioral health problems may not ever be resolved, and it is in the PHC scope of practice to coach...so, coach to remind to take meds and see their doctor?

It was announced in a town hall meeting last quarter, I think, the dismantling and reassignment of hbh. There really was no behavioral health program for hccp, so it may not have been noticed. We have MAP, which does “coaching” not “counseling”

Below poster, why are they reassigning members with ongoing and unresolved behavioral health issues to PHC’s?

Also, why no communication about this?

correction. Hbh was stopped, but behavioral health is still in play and a program, under hah now, and they have a specific roster of people they work with

Just let one or two of your cases have an episode, expressing their condition to emergency services with some press coverage. The company is still afraid of the local newspapers and will change their operating procedures immediately!

Thanks for the info, everyone.

@QIYOuNA-olj - I feel the same way. My educational background is not in behavioral health and some of these members have severe issues.

Once again HAH is stepping all over the ethical boundaries.

HBH is ending 12/31/17. They will be absorbed by Humana Inc/HAH.

BH was changed and they do not manage members anymore. HAH neglected to send out an e-mail detailing this change. Many of us found out when we tried to refer a member to a BH care manager. These members are very time consuming and I feel that I am not qualified in this area at all. Talk about practicing above my scope of practice!

I'm not sure. Maybe I missed the announcement as well. Or I received it and managed to forget.

I am also a PHC noticed the same thing on my roster. There was a reason we were not managing these members before - they had needs beyond the scope of practice of our role - and now that is no longer a concern?
