Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

If Phil only knew...

Tenure doesnt matter any more. All that matters is how well you prop up your leaders as a yes man/woman. I know people that were barely qualified to be managers that have been promoted to director and even senior director in 2 years. These people are mean spirited, lie about their output, and destruct culture.

If Phil knew I am sure he would be saddened. nike continues to get rid of doers in favor of consultant PPT jockeys. Each presentation trying to be more clever than the last, even though no work has been done. nike troubles are related to retail being in a tailspin but it is also because no one works anymore. just public relation campaigns.

And with freestyle and half day fridays, no one really even works anymore. All accountability gone.

Rumor is Phil is aware....he went to the board about Trevor after the Twigs debacle. Millions spent and no accountability for a campaign that was pulled as they announced lay offs...

The "funny" thing is that PowerPoint is not good enough anymore. Now people are creating PPT decks and then having others come in and convert them to Keynote because it's "cooler". LOL...

@dbg oh that sweet MBA talk, oh that sweet glitter of PowerPoint slides.

I hope we realize where things went wrong and that we learn from our own mistakes.

It's possible, yet unlikely.

First off, Phil absolutely knows what's going on. Second, tenure does not equate value to the company and the skill to do your job. I don't agree with how anything about this was handled, but there were a lot of good people that are gone today so let's not muck up their memories by implying that it should have been based on length of service.

Agree with the OP - Nike's culture and original mission has been compromised by self-serving careerists. Recap decks, sizzler videos, self-celebration while being deaf to changing consumer, competitor & marketplace pressures have poisoned the company. It's not the same company I had joined 16 years ago.

Sad what the company is turning into but I can't blame it on the man in charge, I blame a lot on those below him. As you said, just a bunch of yes men. Nike was built by the hard work of a dedicated many, quite a few without college degrees and now every one needs a Masters to be looked at.

Many good and not so good at their jobs people are being laid off but I have to wonder for every worthless or underperforming VP or higher that has been kept around because of who they are friends with, how many people who actually work hard and are the foundation of the company got laid off?
