@OyI8OHD-1rtv and others.

"Why they go after Solaris .... isn't that team already slashed by 80% back in January ?!"

When Oracle puts a technology into maintenance mode, it means it is COMPLETELY dead. I've seen Oracle fire EVERY single last engineer for a product that had many years of "support" left according to the support roadmap. Oracle has no SLA for bug fixes, so when customers file bugs for products Oracle has abandoned, the bug reports just sit there unassigned for however many years the product is still supported on paper. A normal company would keep a skeleton crew around to support pre-existing customers. Oracle is not a normal company. MH/LE/SC don't care at all about how bad they burn our preexisting customers. Those poor slobs are locked in.

So if you are part of the 20% that survived the Jan layoffs, don't feel safe. It may be true that Oracle would need you to keep our commitments to our customers, but Oracle has no plans of keeping those commitments.

M9 development maybe iffy, however,

I would think M8 will/should go out so existing customers, who need to refresh/upgrade their HW Systems, don't panic and stop purchasing SPARC HW. It should be possible to sell M7 and M8 based HW systems for 3 to 5 years or even longer, with minimal support and maintenance.

Too much has been invested in M8 to not go out, especially since M8 based systems bring-up and testing has been going on for a while, and performance / benchmark numbers for M8 are supposed to be impressive/compelling.

Wasn't the M8 chip/cpu supposed to be announced before OoO (Oracle Open World), possibly around Hot Chips 2017, which is on Aug 20-22, followed by announcement of M8 based HW Systems at/around OoO ?

Although M8 is not being presented at Hot Chips but that should not prevent us from announcing (brag about) M8 independently.

Does this mean M9 is done ? Will M8 even go out ?

If "Solaris is died", does that mean SPARC cpu design is too ?

This is sad guys. But on the upside, Oracle is so not worth it. Take the severance pay and find an awesome place to work instead. Good luck!
