Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Line up for some of the action!!!

CHICAGO — Two employees have filed a class action lawsuit against Follett Corporation and Follett Higher Education Group Inc., citing alleged unpaid wages and violation of Workers' Compensation acts.

Angela Williams and Tom Colban, who worked as assistant managers in Follett campus bookstores, filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on March 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against the defendants alleging they failed to properly compensate the plaintiffs for their work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege they regularly worked more than 40 hours per week without being paid overtime compensation by Follett.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek unpaid overtime pay, liquidated damages in an equal amount, interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Ryan F. Stephan of Stephan Zouras LLP in Chicago.

The more employees in the lawsuit, the more likely they will settle. I called the attorney and am now part of it.

If corporate isnt doing the schedules of store employees, and store management is, where does the manager fall in the responsibility of over scheduling staff?

It has always been expected to work more during buyback, rush, special events, and in return you work less in the summer.

In my entire region i do not believe any employee is working over 40 when school is not in session, unless they are being taken advantage of by store management.

If you are forced and threatened, yes you can win. It's been done and a few did in 2015/2016. Follett will settle out of court so it not to hit the news. Perhaps this one will

Lazy person who wants something for nothing?, says a damaged person who has no experience dealing with being made whole. In other words someone so clueless they don't know they don't have to let a corporation take without payment. Someone so lazy they don't even try to find representation. Someone so insulated they have no idea how many lawyers will only take low hanging fruit rather than work to develop a case.

Thank you to those who brought this class action forward. Because of your hard work many may be made whole.

@N8eCt0p-3etr, I guess in your mind if you don't let a multi billion dollar company s**t all over you and you seek relief in court, you're lazy and want something for nothing. Follett has deep pockets, I hope they get fined enough that the family feels it and it's publicized enough that they feel some shame. Wonder of MS will get booted for letting them down?

It doesn't take courage to abuse employees, it takes a greedy company who wants something for nothing.

This is the class action that made all non store managers (ASM and others) to be taken to hourly a couple of weeks ago. This is probably going to be settled out of court since it's less expensive than a drawn out trial. This isn't new news.

Hats off to these two hard working associates. It takes courage to stand up in the front of a class action suit and fight for what's right.

Wasn't AW in HR before she moved to the store job? Maybe the inside dirt will come out? S**t may be hitting the fan!

If they are salaried and exempt employees, they will not win. Simple as that

What are the terms of the class? Is it strictly failure to pay for work done?

Thank you for this information. With any luck, this is the first crack in the facade. I know that follett has decided to pay lawyers top dollar to squash any and all law suits. No settlements, destroy the employee. Few lawyers will represent a worker when the employer is going to fight back.
