Rewarding Failure -the American Ruse

Marissa Mayer will make $186 million on Yahoo’s sale to Verizon

Tuesday, 25 Apr 2017 | 12:26 AM ET

The New York Times

Yahoo shareholders will vote June 8 on whether to sell the company's internet businesses to Verizon Communications for $4.48 billion. A yes vote, which is widely expected, would end Marissa Mayer's largely unsuccessful five-year effort to restore the internet pioneer to the disaster that it is today.

But Ms. Mayer, the company's chief executive, will be well compensated for her failure. Her Yahoo stock, stock options and restricted stock units are worth a total of $186 million, based on Monday's stock price of $48.15, according to data filed on Monday in the documents sent to shareholders about the Verizon deal.

Glad the glass ceiling was broken. She's an inspiration to all little girls who aspire to be paid hundreds of millions for doing a terrible job.

Rewarding failure? The rich are too rich too fail. Middle class and poor folk are never rewarded for failure. That's a rich privilege only.

@1hfs...it isn't not a bigger payout than the severance package. If you read the policy, the severance package only applies to Directors and below. The package has never applied to anyone above Director title. However yes I will agree that from the beginning that it has been stated that she would not be coming to Verizon. This is why Marni will be taking over seeing both Yahoo and AOL, which has been posted in many articles and part of the reason why we are seeing a major reorg.

That was the plan front the beginning, since she was about to be fired from Yahoo, before the acquisition

The decision was made (either by her, by VZ or by mutual consent) that she wouldn't be coming to Verizon, so she gets a slightly bigger payout than that provided by Verizon's severance program!
