Are they really firing people

Total head count today is 136543 and yesterday it was 136368.. 175 added. It includes EMEA, NA also where head count has increased. Any views?

What kind of new assignments have been given for hw teams? 90% percent seems like over the top to cut under JF. That's a lot of people. I can't believe they would cut that deep but I have seen worse over the years.

Most folks here that have not got new assignments in Linux/Cloud are

basically "dead men walking.." bidding time..

Solaris/SPARC is dead. Of course, Oracle mgmt will try to spin it otherwise..

Burlington, Austin and Santa Clara? Main sites under JF? Just think of mass of unemployed looking for jobs in jan in those locations. Along with the other tech companies RIFs. Anyone got leads on new jobs yet? Expect a few months of unemployment is my thinking. I've been using LinkedIn primarily. Lots of headhunters are they for real?

I've been anticipating Fowler would get displaced or somehow depart with MH taking on more leadership of the company. It's inevitable they only care about maximising profits that's why MH is in place. Trust me he is driving strategy now. To corporate America he is a billion dollar exec.

1ews is right on, there is no future at oracle, go somewhere else, especially if you haven't' joined yet. And whatever you do, don't move for a job with oracle, they will not move you back when they rif you.

Oracle will continue to make adjustments. There is a gradual shift away from on premise solutions to Cloud and selling digitally over the phone and through the web as opposed to having a field sales team or hardware engineering.

As this shift occurs, more expensive and experienced talent is replaced with younger and cheaper talent that has to be trained but also has a much higher turnover rate. We will see how this works out for Oracle. It didn't work out too well at HP.

Also under Fowler. I've been told to send my resume out and clean out my office in anticipation of cuts mid to late Jan. My boss and his boss doing the same. We've been told 50 to 90% cuts.

Does cloud have hw groups hardlined? What are the x86 groups report to? Fowler? Am interviewing and this is all sounding very risky. Would they keep newer person over other long time employees? I heard they are moving people around to safe places.

Oracle is all in the CLOUD. If you are not part of it, beware! I can understand why Oracle employees are anxious because there's little work to do for the kind of money being paid.

I think they can get away with it because people are not all in one location especially in the USA. Many people in Systems work from home and geographically the office locations are all over. They can do it without cutting 300 people in any one campus. They can easily get rid of half of the org I work in without having to trigger the warn - precisely because we are all over the globe and there aren't 300 of any of us in one location. Also the RIF could and likely will include other countries.

I'm somebody under Fowler. I was informed that in Jan a little over half of our group (including myself) will be RIF'd n a few weeks. Contacting folks about a new job (internally and outside) is not how I was hoping to spend my Xmas.

I can't speculate how true the rumors are about RIF's impacting half of Fowler's org, but all the way down his org, I can tell you my group will certainly be affected. So, there is some truth to all this noise.

Which groups have net additions? Hurd' Class of telemarketing groups or orgs that employ adults who actually do something? Or is the growth in India and Romania? What's the net change in the US and Western Europe, yoy? Also, factor out acquisitions
