I have serious doubts that Trump will respect her in the morning, not that I think he ever did

Romania is going to backfire on Oracle spectacularly next year when they will no longer enjoy tax breaks for constant+significant workforce increases. Oracle was the first big corp to establish itself in Bucharest, but now that Bucharest is an important hub and a lot of competition has arrived, Oracle can't keep up. Even setting up an office in another city (Cluj?) didn't help them out a lot.

@ulj - good opportunity to hold the dictator's feet to fire

Oracle is a company with significant overseas cash reserves, in the top 5 and didn't go crazy during the election. A big part of the message was about making it easier for companies to bring their overseas cash back.

Regardless, feet need to be held to the fire about US jobs as well. If they are going to RIF skilled engineers, they should nuke seats in offshore locations (India) and give those US engineers the spot. Once you factor in the extra costs, India is not actually cheaper. It's cheaper per head, but you need more heads to get the same work done, and it's vastly inferior in every way.

Oracle is a not a democracy. It's run by a dictator.

Why all the secrecy? Make an announcement like other companies, run by adults do.

They have to cut costs. Too much is going to the cloud and I imagine much of the RIF's are focused on non-strategic sectors. It's cloud or bust at Oracle.

So why won't oracle be upfront about it like other companies and announce it, rather than pretend that it's not doing it? Just a little childish and dishonest?

Ridiculous to think companies won't layoff. It's business and if a product is no long viable then people have to go.
