AT&T Cheerleading Squad for Merger: Nearly 100 Lobbyists

By CECILIA KANG and ERIC LIPTONOCT. 25, 2016

WASHINGTON — From the political right and the left, AT&T’s $85 billion bid for Time Warner has provoked pushback. But AT&T, in addition to its billions of dollars of capital, has another arsenal at its disposal: one of the most formidable lobbying operations in Washington, if AT&T dedicated all this energy to the consumers that buy their services, would be a successful company, instead CEO randall Dtevenson has list of nearly 100 registered lobbyists already on retainer in 2016 includes former members of Congress. AT&T is the biggest donor to federal lawmakers and their causes among cable and cellular telecommunications companies, with its employees and political action committee sending money to 374 of the House’s 435 members and 85 of the Senate’s 100 members this election cycle. That adds up to more than $11.3 million in donations since 2015, four times as much as Verizon Communications — that it will certainly too much asking to weigh in again in Washington, as it tries to get the merger approved, like the DTV Fiasco

“We have seen our fair share of deals,” AT&T’s general counsel, David R. McAtee II, said in an interview. “Our job is informing consumers what a good development this is for them.”

hehe, the best part about these juicy posts is that a day or two after they are posted the news confirms some if not all that is in them and having the Randall defense brigade look stupid and eating crow. I do enjoy a good butt hurt koolaid drinker.

@oep, Bernie is going to sit down and shut up, just like he did when he found out that Clinton's campaign had sabotaged him. Also, Clinton is pro-Wall Street, and for 50 bonus points, can you identify who the real winners of this deal are?

(hint: they're on Wall Street)

I bet the farm the deal doesn't go through. Bets are open boys!

*Randall forgot to grease the palms of the democrats and they are most certainly going to win the presidency and maybe even the senate so there's that.

*oh but Clinton is the one who deregulated telecommunications in the first place you say? Don't think the left hasn't been hounding them about it since and they aren't going to repeat the same mistake especially since god 'ol comrade Bernie is going to make it a point to squash this deal he's already said so and don't forget in order to get him on board he was promised a nice strong post in the cabinet he isn't going to just fade away.

*Its the perfect first test of put your money were you mouth is for Hillary and boy is she going to be eager to toss the left a nice juicy anti big business bone to get the ball rolling and confidence from her constituency which by the way also covers the right because no side wants this deal to happen. Don't look to other businesses stepping in to defend Randal they are more than happy to let T be the sacrificial lamb.

*The lobbyists are wasting their time but the members will be more than happy to take your money and assure them that it will go through, heck fee money is free money. Except no one especially on the right want to be anywhere near what will appear as more of the status quo for big business especially when their #1 guy was picked by a blood thirsty populist movement that after the election is going to blame the establishment members, don't be surprised if all of a sudden being pro big business becomes a dirty word.

Randall you have the worst timing its almost as if you completely forgot there was an election going on and what its about. You putts.

How cynical!

Yes, it is shocking. The skids are greased to get this deal through. For all we know, this has been planned like a chess game for years. Too bad a company uses so much of its resources to do that than just run the company.
