Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon, a workplace run on threats and fear.

It's absolutely incredible that this piece of $hit company doesn't have lawyers lined up filing class action lawsuits against them. Every conversation between management and associated is filled with underlying threats of suspension or termination. Anytime management is heard on a conference call, again, it's filled with discussion of how they need to be disciplining the workforce for utter nonsense. I often wonder how great this company could actually be if it wasn't being run by such a large group of douche bags.

I understand it's a good paying job with good benefits ,but will a 401k alone be enough especially if you haven't saved starting in your 20s? Many of the employees who were hired when there was a pension, even if frozen, get a pension and that all too critical as we age, a percentage paid for medical, dental and vision....are there no companies that provide retirement benes and a pension besides civil service? Does anyone else who is with Verizon and not going to receive a pension or health retiree benefits planning to put in a full career?

@crk Finance was originally in Atlanta but due to affinity locations it was changed to Tulsa , OK and Lake Mary, FL. Are you saying that these locations are no longer the case? Or are you speaking of VzW Finance?

I agree as well Verizon pays well and has good benefits, but a totally broken culture of fear, backstabbing and cover your a$$.

Leadership never changes, they just get shuffled around in a sort of musical chairs routine. They brought in an outside VP for wireless so maybe we'll see something there.

I know many in finance were impacted this week when they decided to relocate everything to New Jersey and Atlanta, so the layoffs continue...

It's true. Not everyone got a better paying job after the December debacle. We didn't. It depends on where you live. But perhaps you can negotiate for a third week of vacation or telecommute or just enjoy the fact that you are working with normal human beings again. Sad to see folks that hung in there for that five weeks of vacation get flushed by somebody who can barely speak English.

Agreed, you are now required to find something wrong with every single direct report.

@bfw, that is easier said then done. VZW pays well. I was laid off in November and jobs are not easy to get. If you do find a job you will more than likely take a huge paycut...

If you're in Lincoln, Mankato, Rancho, or Little Rock.... hang on until the first quarter in 2017.... you're all in the running for being the 3 call centers that get closed! Get that severance pay, go on unemployment, get your education, and start a new life! Be happy and fulfilled

I have friends in leadership who are directly told to manage their team with fear. They are told to pull failed calls to review with employees. Then to pick them apart and reprehend them. So it all depends on your supervisor and if they have the balls and humanity to protect you. This company runs on the old Nazi style of leadership. Their propaganda and techniques are directly targeted at producing numbers via fear. I've heard it from multiple leaders and seen it for myself. Don't determine your value based on what they say or do. You're better than that and deserve and well respected career. Use your benefits and get out as soon as you can!

The company became really "sh^tty" after all of the wireless types were allowed to take over. They made a mess, now they don't want to be a phone company anymore. Now they want to be an adtech company. Bottom line, things will not improve at Verizon and will likely get worse. That is until they end up like the old AT&T, and end up getting purchased by Frontier - just for the name!

So the best time to look for a job is while you have one. That time is now.

The United States Postal Service implemented this same style of fear, intimidation, and oppressive management tactics in the 1990's. It was put to a stop after many national incidents of employees having mental breakdowns. A well known term that we know today depicting their breakdowns was adapted.
