After 11 months, neither Verizon (Reed) nor CWA/IBEW negotiating teams have done their jobs and should be FIRED!
My advice to union members is to be cautious when telling future strike stories to your family and friends. What you see as “for the cause” is really vulgarities, unprofessionalism and inhuman treatment of strangers that just happen to be your coworkers. It’s truly pathetic. We’re all on the same side – workers against wall st/elitists. In case you didn’t know, my choice as an EWAer was to work, quit or be fired, so your frustration and anger towards me is misguided. As for “management” (most of which don’t manage anyone), you should feel compassion for the union as their way of life is being threatened by an external force (demise of unions) and they are scared to death.
I don’t blame Verizon or the union for their thoughts/behavior during the strike, but I don’t see any positives in the way we’re BOTH acting/feeling towards each other. Let’s finish with a “pay it forward” attitude toward one another, union and non-union, and perhaps we can realize some lessons learned for the benefit of our customers, organizations and Verizon.
And yes, let’s hope the contract is finalized and we can all go home.
