Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon’s ‘Local Service’ and Wired Networks Are Profitable Once the Slush Fund of Corporate Expenses Is Removed

Now, AT&T and Verizon have continuously said that it is ‘uneconomical’ to upgrade most areas and that the solution is to force customers onto their wireless services, (which also gets a number of financial perks, but that analysis is for another story).

But, it has all been a financial shell game. There has been massive dumping of corporate expenses, which has been going on for a while, but is now out of control and in high gear — and this is one (of many) reasons “Local Service” and the wired networks are ‘unprofitable’.

who would want to buy wireline? VZ's negligence over the last 10+ years have allowed the network to rot and fester. That ship has sailed.

It's like buying a lemon from a used car salesman

Buy wirelene? Did you see what's going on out West???? VZ botched the recently sold off to Frontier the copper & FiOS network in California, Florida & Texas. Just go to Google and type: Frontier Verizon and check out the articles under the news tab lol "botched Verizon cutover", "Verizon's bad data", etc.

@sad "Also, if you 90% out of the huffington post is correct, then i pity you fool"

Conversely,

Also, if you 90% out of Fortune is correct, then i pity you fool....

Also, if you 90% out of the Wall Street Journal is correct, then i pity you fool

Also, if you 90% out of the huffington post is correct, then i pity you fool

Also, if you 90% out of that Stever Forbes diatriabe last week about Unions & Detroit is correct, then i pity you fool.

Nobody is questioning about wireline "shrinking". Many are looking into the story of how/why it's shrinking and investigating VZs claims, in addition to the importance of wireline in relation to VZWs infrastructure, not to mention whether VZ is purposely bungling the state of the art and exceptional fiber optic FiOS service.

You're not as fair & impartial as you think.

@zoz… cause it’s easier to complain about how others are screwing it up than it is to take responsibility and risk screwing it up.

@bbm - the other question is, would Lowell and crew let it go for how much is left in the strike fund...lol...I guess cwa/ibew could get business loans..if it.was a viable option, why wouldn't the unions do it?

Yeah…. GTE was built by farmers who learned as they went. Surely a group who already know the business should be able to run with this.

@cpa - I would be all for it, however..I don't call the shots. Employee owned is much more preferable imo and I'm sure it woild be ran much better than Lowell and crew does now.

I’m not talking per person… I’m talking about the union brotherhood entering into a business collectively

@TFJ… Of course, but you have all the experienced, skillful brains and hands of the union behind you. The master technicians ought to be able to work their magic and get things straightened out in no time. you’d have control of the purse strings, so the funds would, no doubt, be approved.

@AVO- there’d be no more fudging of numbers if you guys bought consumer wireline. I’m sure you guys would be able to make it twice as profitable.

@wln - who told you that? Lol...come on, do the math...$400,000,000 ÷ 39,000, how much is that per person?

@sad - "It accounts for about 20% of revenue, and 7% of profit."

Those are the smokescreen fudged percentages i was talking about. Those figures would be alot higher if you subtracted the corporate expenses /operating costs and executive salaries. Those are the costs being dumped into wireline and scewing the numbers. Also, wireline is being reduced by design. Look at how much they have attempted to invest in rolling out fios to more areas, which has been proven to turn a profit over time.

OK, so after years of letting the network deteriorate, the union should buy it, come on. The management style for at least 10 years has been, hit and run, fix nothing the proper way,it was different before this management team

huh... that's funny... I thought you guys had 400-500 thousand in your strike fund.

@byd - what are you talking about and what planet are you on? Strike relief is bare minimum 10k, there is no way in hell you can get a small business loan as an individual to buy up wireline, way too expensive. Also, you would be taking the corporate heads piggy bank and cost center away, so the asking price would be too much.

no one said wireline was not profitable.

It accounts for about 20% of revenue, and 7% of profit.

Therefore, it is profitable.

But, wireline continues to shrink. that is the problem.

Also, if you 90% out of the huffington post is correct, then i pity you fool

@OCK…. This was posted on another thread, but I think it bears asking here…

You should take your strike fund, and use it as a down payment on a loan to buy wire line. Then you’d be contract free… you could be in control of your own job security. You succeed, you have security… you fail- it’s gone. You determine how far you travel for work… you don’t go, it doesn’t get done.

Serious, well thought out replies only, please. Any insults or profanity will just betray your fears about taking care of yourselves.

@rlm - exactly, so if the mantra is "wireline isnt profitable/brings only 7% of the revenue", it is a complete lie. Wireline is being treated like a corporate piggy bank and cost center all at the same time. If the numbers won't so fudged due to this shell game these corporate heads are playing, wireline would look way more profitable than they are saying it is now. Just more lies and spin.

Numbers are shifted any way they want. They spend more money on shifting expenses and PR then anything else.
