As long as people continue to cut their tv and phone cords, wireline will continue to lose people. Before the internet, the phone companies were making a ton of money and took very good care of their people. Unless the trend changes about the wireline, we will continue to shrink in wireline work force. It is like VHS tape manufactures trying to hold on to their job. Once 5G gets implemented, no one will care about fios. Best thing for union folks to do is to take this time and learn something new. Make yourself more valuable and marketable. This is what everyone else does who are not in the union. We continue to study and learn more skills to put food on our tables.

Without wireline Cellular towers are absolutly useless...OP shows how little about the business he knows. My God, learn about how the network functions!

Nope. A significant portion of the wireline is regulated and VZ - or AT&T, Frontier or any other LEC - can't just decide one morning that they are going to stop providing those services.
AT&T has been the first to try and break these obligations - with VZ to follow a few years later - but no one has succeeded yet.
So by claiming people cutting the cord and doing away with tv why is there a verizon commercial every 2 minutes? Who is watching them? People cut the cord cause companies like commiecast and verygreedy keep raising prices. Look back 10 years. Tripple play was around 120 with taxes included. Cable box rental was only 5.99. Now? Around 180 for the cheapest. 200 for a decent. And for cable boxes? 11 bucks? A dvr? Close to 30. Pure f---ing greed

Lol....what f---ing planet are you from!? Most of the managers I know have been skating by on the minimal knowledge they have garnered over the years. In most cases most managers I have worked with barely have the base managerial skills necessary to run our group and deal with minor issues. Thank god work orders, PMs and payroll are auto generated and done by the associates themselves.

@dmb - agreed, even if that mean the company heads make stupid "investments" driving the company into the ground, it's their choice. I'm sure the "shareholders" whom they so covet won't be very pleased with those decisions when their shares in the company drop like a rock however.

As a subscriber and employee, I want reliable high speed internet. 3 Mg's of DSL just doesn't cut it. The company could easily build out high speed internet that is affordable and reliable. It would generate work and build revenue!
That's funny, other companies offering fiber services are seeing an increase of profitability, but since Verizon barely invests in rolling out fiber to more areas, they are receiving a smaller slice of the pie, and that's the unions fault? I guess buying bad assets like AOL and Yahoo is supposed to make up for profits not received by rolling out FiOs everywhere? Who are the boneheads at the top making these decisions? Certainly not the brightest bunch.
What is so funny, and yet sad, is the union thinks they are hurting Verizon by disconnecting their FiOS, etc. all this does is prove that the company doesn't need all of them because of lower demand. They are pushing themselves out the door and aren't smart enough to even realize it. But then again, intelligence has never been an attribute associated with picket monkeys. They are just either too stupid to realize it, or too lazy to care.
