Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Bargaining or Impasse Formality?

There is perception out there that this entire meeting in DC is for show and the final piece before impasse is officially declared. EWA is held hostage and union members probably feel the same. There is already a very structured and detailed plan for replacements and significant effort and investment has been made. I'm starting to think they fully expected and even hoped there would be a strike. What better way to remove the union then to have them walk out the door like it was their own idea. To think because there are some new FIOS install shortfalls and a slight temporary drop in stock price that the company is on the ropes and about to go under is almost comical and sad at the same time. Best of luck to all involved. Do your own homework and make your best judgment about what is transpiring here. Our families depend on it.

Things will progress in DC. An agreement could come as early as end of this week, more probable the following. Their will be opportunity for many in the union to leave in the coming months. Many managers will be gone via the RIF, whether they want it or not. Workers will be back, scabs will be scabbing somewhere else.

Op, is is another rumor you are trying to spread without any reliable source?. I am on EWA and tired of hearing folks spreading rumors. I am very positive very few folks in the company have an idea of what the final destination will be. Even some of the VPs I spoke to had no idea but only knew the rumors ( maybe true at the time??)

@bws ---- should the contract go through like VZ wants, and I expect it will, I think we can expect 10 to 12 thousand craft people off the books within the next 14 months.

No one needs to be smug.

If the contract goes through like Vz wants, it wont matter what you made while on ewa or scab. You will be replaced.

VZ and the Union leaders are playing games with people's life. Do they really care? Moving people from their families for over a month or more and Union members loosing income and benefits for almost six weeks. These leaders have get serious.

Going to be bad news for the union members if this is true.

People that say VZ stock is suffering because of the strike are kidding themselves. The entire market has been sliding for the past few weeks. If you compare VZ vs the DJIA, VZ has actually outperformed for the past month. (DJIA down -2.68% for the past month, VZ down .58%) DERP

I personally do not care if they are at an impasse or bargaining. Verizon is not worth my time or effort anymore. They can keep the pension and benefits. I am walking away.. I think I can live pretty decent off the income from my rentals. If not I can always raise the rent. That's the beauty of a college town, milk the students as much as possible.

As for the slight drop in stock, one must remember the majority of shareholders are retirement investment companies with millions of shares. A 3% drop in value is big bucks when you have a million shares.
