PSA for CWA & IBEW

Benefits run out in a few days. Make sure you schedule any heart attacks, diabetic comas or strokes for no later than week's end. After that it's Darwin's Law in action.

Don't rely on the strike fund, by the time they release money, your family will be bankrupt. Plus, final expenses probably won't be covered.

Best of luck!

In limited cases the CWA Fund Director for District 1 will authorize payment of COBRA premiums on behalf of strikers and their families, IF YOU OR A FAMILY MEMBER HAS A SERIOUS, CHRONIC MEDICAL CONDITION. TO APPLY, YOU SHOULD SPEAK IMMEDIATELY TO YOUR LOCAL MEMBER RELIEF FUND COORDINATOR AND REQUEST A “CWA REQUEST FOR COBRA PAYMENT” FORM. MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU FILL OUT THE FORM YOU INCLUDE ANY SUPPORTING MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION.

The Local will get the form to the CWA Fund Director for District 1 for review and determination.

I've been on union managed healthcare in the past with a bigger union than CWA and it was a nightmare. Payments were solw to arrive at providers. I did more of the insurance logistic work than the fund managers and constantly had to stay on top of them so my bills didnt end up going to collections. Nightmare is an understatement.

CWA just dont get it and they have no regard for their "brothers/sisters" in the Smaller less funded IBEW. No such plan they can jump on to. Not all of the strikers have had years years prep for this. Since 2012 there have been numerous new hires and they are also a second class in this fight with no pensions. It was also then that CWA created a two tier system and conceded to contribute for heealthcare. Did they really think think that going forward healthcare costs wouldn't rise and be passed to members? If VZ is such a horrid place to work why do most of the people i know working there have 20+ years there?

CWA has pledged that no striking member or family member will go without medically necessary health care during the strike. CWA will pay for all necessary medical/hospital expenses incurred on May 1, 2016 or later. The term “necessary” does not include any treatment not normally covered under the Verizon Medical Plan, nor does it cover any elective procedures or dental work that can be postponed until after the strike. PLEASE CANCEL AND PLAN TO RESCHEDULE ANY WELL DOCTOR VISITS, ELECTIVE PROCEDURES AND DENTAL CLEANING/EXAMS THAT ARE SCHEDULED AFTER MAY 1, 2016.

So for all of you that happen to have newborns, infants or young children your SOL. If the CWA plan is so great why doesn't it mirror exactly what VZ offers? Oh wait that would cost the CWA way too much. Now CWA can determine medically necessary treatment. Anyone else gasping at that thought?

If CWA can give members healthcare at a moments notice than how do expect to get VZ to concede on any of the changes they say are necessary to the medical plan they offer. IBEW just hold on CWA steers the ship and just threw you off with no life boat since the IBEW has fewer members and shallower pockets. They keep calling for sacrifice well CWA just made the IBEW their sacrifice.

"nobody has heard from the IBEW for months. Are they even relevant here?"

Yes they are. However, they are in a weird position since they only represent one full state (NJ) and have a bunch of locals spread elsewhere in the most uncommon of manners, so they are somewhat of a minor partner in the whole game.

" Im sure many other union members planned as well. "

Most of the strikers have been getting ready for this battle over the course of four years and have all of their ducks in the row. Disaster that was 2011 is extremely unlikely to happen again.

Indeed, The strongest instance when a well wishing of 'Good Luck' required and emphasized the need for Luck in leveraging a positive outcome.

Also, good luck in avoiding a water balloon full of urine on your head while you stand in the street outside and annoy the public with your peasant cries for lottery-esque payouts for a company that you've contributed barely anything to in modern times.

Oh, and bye-bye to your savior Bernie!!

Going on spouses ins. Im sure many other union members planned as well.

Looking forward though seeing you a--holes work 12-16 hour days, starting to have marraige problems because your spouse doesn't see you anymore, then getting your reward from Uncle Lowell when this is over. A BIG FAT RIF.

The majority of the rational thinking union members will have benefits starting on Friday. This is the day reality will set in on how they were taken down the wrong road by the so called union leadership, it will be the day they cross the picket line and report to work.

Not funny, especially when many families are pretty panic-stricken over exactly the types of things you posted about.

I'm hearing that the union may be back to work later this week, so hopefully your unfunny joke ends up being irrelevant.

@H6k5eUS good point! But the only Skieves that I see having any heart attacks or strokes or serious injury are from the manager scabs working on strike duty.

Really, this is just a PSA for the CWA... nobody has heard from the IBEW for months. Are they even relevant here?
