Hi am one of those terrible, horrible union workers.
For what it is worth, I can see that you guys have been royally shafted by the company. Basically they are using you as cannon fodder.
The truth? Field tech work may not require a degree in quantum physics, but it can be a hard dirty job. For every easy fix, there is a bomb, conditions in the field are just nothing like what you find in training. There are some very poor conditions in our plant these days. There are a lot of little tricks of the trade you learn along the way that make your day go much easier. The old way of doing things was right after training, a new person worked along with an experienced person for a while to learn the job as they go, in the actual field.
I know how Verizon trains people now, they want do the same thing with us, train us in something that is then not used in over a year. It just doesn't cut it.
I wouldn't want to try to do your job after a 2 week course I took 12 months ago. I wouldn't want to try to do it while you all stood around feeling angry and depressed, blowing whistles and yelling at me. I have no idea how to work in Finance or whatever you guys do. And I am not going to say that your job is easy before I have walked a mile in your shoes.
Sorry the company treats us all this way, while they are making plenty of money, and getting big raises for the top dogs.
In my opinion, it all boils to one thing; respect. That is what we are fighting for. We deserve it and so do you.
Do you think we are getting it?
