Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What are you hearing regarding and end to the strike?

Apparently some people are hearing this Friday, but others are hearing it's expected to go on for a couple of months.

Please no sarcastic responses; In my opinion the longer it goes on the more devastating it is for both the non-union and union people.

Double my pay and I still will not come back under the conditions that we worked under in the last contract let alone the new conditions Verizon wants to implement under their last best offer F you Lowell. And that's my 2 cents!

there are contractor training going on to replace the folks on EWA. Whether the strike ends or not soon, you will be coming home. I do not know if the contractors will be permanent replacement but I don't see why not.

The company is screwed. Even though their FiOS product is better than anything else on the market, they don't maintain it or support it because it has wires. Wireless customers will be shifting to AT&T and T-Mobile as part of the commoditization of wireless, where price counts.

Verizon no longer gives better quality for the dollar. Verizon treats all of their lower level employees like crap. Verizon sends American jobs to foreign countries. Verizon deserves to go down and be acquired by some other company that knows how to manage and invest in the future.

If the 2016 union has vz by the balls while controlling the business sector that contains only 10% of the companies profit I wonder where the union had the company in the previous strikes when wireline was actually generating the majority of the revenue.

I live next to a Verizon training center. There has been zero activity here since strike began. If Verizon is training replacements it's not going on here on VA

Wishful thinking if you think we are coming back. Can't speak for everybody but my local is standing strong. The company underestimated us and also failed to realize how much support there is for the union. Big mistake if you ask me but most of my brothers and sisters were prepared and can last for a while with no sweat. Good luck to all involved. Ewa people included

Go90 is not failling.

The union does not have VZ by the balls.

Wireline is about 7% of profits.

The company wants to break the union. (my opinion, I hope they fail in that reguard).

The ego's need to go out of the room. Both sides need to be realistic.

GLTA all, Union and EWA.

@H6VL7OJ-nsi then the union needs to crush the company and allow the bits left over to be picked up by other carriers. There is nothing more fascinating than watching a self-immolation, which is exactly what the company is doing.

Why buy out Vodafone's share if the company wasn't intrested in being a communications company anymore?

I am hearing repeatedly that the company is isn't expecting the union to return to work at all. They want the union to break and that this is the time to do it. I am also hearing that the Union would lose face if they returned now, for t would show tremendous weakness. It's going to be a long one and at this point, it looks like the only union workers who will remain Verizon employees will be the ones who cross and come to work. Company is sayng enough is enough.

"spending millions for nothing"

If it helps get rid of the union millstone around their neck, then it is money well spent.

The company looks more foolish every day. They just told the analysts that their G090 milllennial marketing plans are not working out and will try to 'expand' their target market, but who will want to watch after they were told by the 'smart set' inside Verizon that the only customers who matter are the millennials?

I don't know the point of this post.. I assume you just want to let some steam out.

It wouldn't matter when it ends or how it ends to the folks on EWA.

The fact is you can't go back home until it ends and it's a kinda waste of your emotion and time just guessing what it ends and hope for the best.

I am sure everyone wants this to end as soon as it can. At this point, you are probably a walking zombie working long hours past 2 weeks if you didn't take a day off. Take some break.

We didn't Verizon just keep the contract the same with cost of living increase??? This could have all been avoided instead spending millions for nothing????

The company is on the ropes and will do anything to get the unions back to work.

The EWA force is failing

Go90 is costing a bundle and still not making any traction

The company executives keep looking worse and worse to the American public

I would not be surprised if they come back under "certain terms" There is NO WAY the union bosses are going to start paying the reps out of their coffers. This will just confirm that the union is as bad as the company with treatment of their members. The union will give some spin on why they came back

Visit this site over the weekend and you will see that i'm right.

As a EWA worker I can tell you we have heard nothing and the union tapes don't even get updated. Sometimes no news is good news. I would say if the union does not come back Friday than it will be a long strike. If the company spends the money to hire and trin they will want to get their moneys worth.

There is word going around the union is going to accept federal mediation today or tomorrow and this will speed things up. I stress this is all conjecture and hearsay and rumor or whatever you want to call it. Probably wishful thinking on some peoples part most likely but it's coming from multiple places from what we can see. Nothing official has been announced of course so don't believe it till it comes from those doing the bargaining.

If Union doesn't end it this week due to stoppage of benefits, VZ is willing to wait for years until the union breaks. It'll go on quite some time.

I'm on a EWA. There hasn't been any word on the end of the strike. We have been told that plans are in the works to reduce our hours on a voluntary basis as new hires complete training and get up to speed. There has been only one meeting between the company and the union since this strike started. They are not even talking at this point. From all that I can see the company isn't expecting the union to return to work at all.
