Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The Stock Price Tells All

The stock is down $4/ share since Apr 4, and broke through its $51 support level. The company is on the ropes, and the Board will not likely let the srike make it to the elections.

Keep on the pressure CWA & IBEW.

They execs wanted to starve FiOS and anything wireline to feed their own loser projects. Priceless.

AT&T down $2 since the beginning of the month...no strike there. Ever think that maybe telcos in general are down?

well, you use the highest point over the last few months to try and make a point... it was normal fluctuation around 54 for a while there, then something happened April 6th that caused it to go down... Can you say ex-dividend date? I knew you could... but do you know what it means? Then the strike happened April 13th and it didn't cause a major shift in value (that must have really chapped the union's hide). Then 1Q results announced (during 1Q the union was working, so revenue was NOT impacted by Scabs/Rats/Contractors) and it drops around $2... I think Wall St was fully aware of the strike- they're just not pleased with the 1Q results.

If this strike goes on it will likely go down as far as $45 and trade between $45 to $49.

The company lost some face with the street, because they lost control when they should not have, and are not delivering the positive surprises that were hoped for.

They are going to have to prove that they are worth something more than a dumb pipe, but so far that is still where all of the money comes from.

@H12hm3K-eim no really are skum! No question. You do not represent the investor or shareholder by any stretch of the imagination. Your posts tell me that you are not familiar at all with who owns the stock and why? So your are just another over-degreed-under-educated-anti-American-metrosexual-milquetoast profiting off of the work that you cannot do yourself. Skum.

@H12hm3K-qfm which means that you are a speculator skum, and neither investor, nor capitalist, nor entrepeneur.

You are the cancer in the markets. A bottom feeder. Not at all interested in what the actual 'underlying' company does for a living, or how they do it, or who they do it for?

Just high frequency mental masturbation. Kind of like jerking off the markets and the companies.

You are the kind of skum we could use a lot less of. You make money on volatility and chaos. Investors make money investing in going concerns.

But then the company exhibited confidence. Not anymore. Wireless growth is flat and all of the new technologies are bit players compared to the Amazon's , Facebooks and Googles.

There is nothing wrong with being the dumb pipe that provides all of the dreamware and dreams, but there is a big problem with pumping pipedreams up the backsides of shareholders and bondholders, using their money.

I am going to bet that Google or Amazon will buy the company in the next five years because they understand its value, even if the company does not.

@H12hm3K-uuh The comment shows you are a 100% uneducated moron. According to your poor IQ, let's make it simple. People can use "futures contract" or "futures" to make money while either the stock price are dropping or rising.

I cannot believe the idiot posts: "the stock price doesn't matter..."

To whom? To the shareholders it most certainly does, and according to the company rule book, that is who everyone works for.

Now if your had listened to the earnings call or read the news stories, then you might be informed for a change instead of a 'prototype V-Team Kool-Aid Drinker'

The Company told Wall Street that the strike will hurt earnings. Earnings are what dictate stock price and dividends and cash flow and an ability to repay debt.

The union is in the lead. And now the company will have to contend with shareholders and other interested parties at the Annual Meeting in a couple of weeks.

The strike will not affect the price of the stock. When the union gives in and goes back to work, the stock will bounce higher. The union is wasting time, go back to work!

tom - obviously not in finance. Even being down $4 since it's high a few weeks ago, our stock price is still up 8.5% on the year. Market corrections happen, especially during a Q with lower revenues than forecasted.

Startling consideration: when the stock went from 46 to 54.5, investors sold to recognize profits.

Go to a finance class. You should have plenty of time.

@H12hm3K-kih is why the stock is down.

A $4 move on a $50 stock is not a 'Fluctuation'.

Clearly this idiot is not one of the more important managers in the company, or maybe they are, which would explain the stupid decision making over the past couple of years.

The stock is down idiot because the earnings came in weak and the company told Wall Street that the earnings will be weaker going forward because of the srike.

What a moron.

These execs really are an embarrassment. Truly bad stewards of the shareholder's capital. Starve FiOS to invest in products that no one wants. Execs really should be fired for that one.
