Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

For those who want to know the truth. Verizon has been robbing the American people blind for a long time.

If you are a union supporter or not you should know what this greedy company is doing and has done to the people of this country. They have promised everything and delivered nothing. Now they want to shut down critical infrastructure in order to rip us off more. Wireless is the future? Wireline is dead? Please inform yourself and use some critical thinking before you drink the company kook aid. There is much more info on the tricks Verizon has pulled to make wireline look unprofitable. A couple of examples would be putting exec compensation on wireline books. Putting all advertising on wireline books. Putting all attorney fees on wireline books. The list goes on and on. They are trying to tell you that wireline is dead so they can force you into a more expensive and capped wireless connection, which by the way will be run off the wired side of the plant. There are more articles that explain what I am talking about, if you choose to be informed more about this greedy company, by the same author. Just google his name.

Also to all the trolls who keep saying the union will be locked out at the end of the month. That would actually be better for the union as they will immediately be eligible for unemployment benefits. Also to all those saying the union members will be replaced permanently it's just not going to happen. It is a lawful strike that is NOT because of economic reasons. The company by law CAN NOT hire permanent replacements. When a contract is signed and one will be eventually, your job will be there. Everyone who is wishing the unions demise should be more fearful than you. Stand strong and fight for what is yours. Good luck.

That's right. We DESERVE what our job was worth yesterday. I for one do the same work day in and day out for the company. Nothing in my job has changed no matter how much you trolls want to say different. Same job, same pay and compensation. It's funny how people who have no clue what our job entails know what we DESERVE. Lol. How about you go worry about what you deserve and let us men go out and fight. It doesn't surprise me that a little bitch like you is happy to be told that he isn't worth as much anymore because somebody told him so. Does your wife beat you or something? Yes master may I have another? Your what's wrong with this country and corporate system. Just bend over and take it like a sl--. That should be your new moddo

because we will not let morons and thieves like you steal what the Pioneers built...

because many of us have been with the company longer than you and have a relationship with the customer

because many of us are investors in this company and are offended that people like you are allowed to work here

Here we go again with the "why don't you leave" song and dance. That's the problem today. Everybody's so quick to puss out. When the going gets tough, the tough go away? I guess that's why you left India. Rather than effect positive change where you are, you rather come here and tell everyone else how to do it.

Why do these people continue to work for Verizon if they hate it so bad?

The "never leave just stay and complain" mentality must be a union thing.

That mentality is the main reason the company has so many service issues in my opinion.

non-Union logic

I will ignore the evidence that wireless expenditures have been dumped on wireline skewing the profitability of both sides.

I will ignore the lack of investment to properly maintain copper infrastructure resulting in poor quality service which drives customers to competitors.

I will ignore the irresponsibility of contractual builds resulting in more funds being diverted to lawyers to fend off unnecessary lawsuits.

I will blame the union for all of the company's ills because everyone deserves lower wages.

So here's the Union logic: In the past we got a lot, so we DESERVE a lot going forward. It doesn't matter that the revenue their work supports is in decline because the country and industry is changing.

I'm sure the buggy whip makers made the same argument.

No lie man. Most H1Bs are what I wipe of my shoe on the curb. Most are here to infiltrate and undermine. Once upon a time people came to America to be Americans. Not anymore.

You make it sound like Verizon held a gun to customers heads and robbed them. Fat, lazy, materialistic Americans who have to drive big expensive cars and live in big houses bought into Verizon's crafty marketing and shoveled over their cash.

It's not like it takes a lot to part your average American from their money. Just look at how much debt everyone is in.

Well if the stockholders are customers they are getting ripped off. And since when is it ok to rob Peter to pay Paul? Isn't that what you say the union does? I guess what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Your attitude is disgraceful! Find another response because that one is not acceptable!

They pay an attractive dividend to investors, so they are not ripping off the people who have invested in VZ stock. And, like all other businesses, they exist to make a profit. It's clear that VZ does not want to pay Union associates what they make currently. You can battle it out, but I think they really don't care if you come back. They would love the opportunity to move call center work to low cost states, paying workers much less than they pay today. If they do not get salaries in line with their competition, they won't be around for the long term.

You don't even know how a union works. From the president down is elected by the membership. If we are not happy with his/her performance they are voted out by the membership. I personally know every union executive in my local and believe them way more than anything that comes from the upper management of the company. And btw now it's 15 years that the company has been telling us that and Again I ask where is the new network we paid for? They have been telling us lies for too long. What malfunction do you have in your brain that doesn't let you realize who is lying here? It baffles any normal person. Either you are one of the ones telling the lies or you are just too stupid to see them. Either way I will believe the people I know and work with on a daily basis before I believe something that is proven to be false. Go listen to Limbaugh and get some sleep. Your shift starts bright and early tomorrow.

That's funny because my boss is one of the good ones. There you go putting words in my mouth again. I told you I like my job already and am paid fairly. I don't want more money. I just want what I bargained for already. Also I don't "think" my employer is ripping people off, I know they are. Just do some research and find out for yourself. The truth will set you free. And let me guess, your response will be again, " why don't you get another job" Sorry to disappoint you but how about no.

Saying that wireline is old, money losing technology that is on the decline is not "drinking the company kool-aid" because the entire industry has been saying it for 15 years.

Saying VzW depends on Verizon Wireline or that wireline is growing and profitable IS, however, drinking the union kool-aid. And I'm pretty sure the union leaders care as much as or probably MORE about lining their pockets than the VZ execs do.

The union leaders are much more dependent on lining their pockets with your money than anyone in VZ is.

My thought on it is that if you a) think your employer is ripping people off and b) you don't get paid enough you should go find another job.

Why do people stay at jobs where they hate their boss or don't make enough money? People who do that are usually the chronic complainers that are a pain in the assto work with.

If you don't like your job then go do something else. Sitting on your asswhining doesn't accomplish anything.

Who is listening to who's bosses? They have been saying the same bs for two decades as you say and here we are, still using copper. The sad part is that copper is outdated and everyone agreed with that. That is why we paid almost 400 billion to have a state of the art, fiber optic network! Well 20 years later and a bunch of broken promises we are still using the old outdated copper network. Ask yourself why? It isn't the "union thugs" feeding you this bullshit, it is the company thugs! Come to think of it maybe you are the reason this company does this to us. You must have Stockholm syndrome or something because you've been told that the Kool aid is poisoned and your still asking for more. Also you can wish I just quit and got another job all you want but what you fail to realize is that without me there is no you.

Any stockholder who supports the union is a complete financial moron. The high fixed costs because of the union is the whole reason Verizon's wireline division is going under.

You see there you go again, putting words in my mouth. I am paid what the company agreed that I am worth as per our last contract. Maybe if you chose to investigate or even cared to know, you would realize what this strike is about. It's about keeping what we have bargained for already. We are the ones who make this company move. We are on strike to save our jobs from going to third world nations who pay slave wages. We are fighting for our dignity at work. If your a troll manager you should know what I'm talking about. We are fighting for our customers. And before you come back to the same bs "wireline is dead" and actually use that brain that God gave you, you would realize that wireline is far superior to anything wireless that Verizon is trying to give you wirelessly. Anyway we should get what we already paid for many times over and that is a fiber optic network. Just like Verizon promised!

Please come back with better logic than "you should go get another job" because it doesn't work. The logical and ethical response should be, why is this allowed to be and how do we change it.

OP, if you're stupid enough to believe that circuit swithing isn't an obsolete technology in a declining industry and that Verizon made the whole thing up then no one here can help you.

If you believe the talking points that your union leader gives you over what the industry has been saying for two decades then you probably also still use a tape drive to back up your PC and watch your movies on a Betamax cartridge. And I bet you still enjoy playing your Atari 2600 every night.

I bet if you run outside real quick you'll see a UFO!

Why do people who don't think they're paid what they deserve not find a job somewhere else? The OP obviously thinks Verizon is corrupt and they don't pay him enough yet he keeps work there.

If you aren't paid enough and you think your employer is evil then quit bitching and go work somewhre else. It's not rocket science.

Mud slinging? Prove me wrong. And why shouldn't we get paid what we deserve? Maybe if you had a union or just some plain old balls, you would get what you deserve too instead of crying about what someone else has. I'm beginning to feel that most of the badgers are just jealous maybe? All that overtime and big bank you are building up is a regular thing for us union members when we are back at work. The difference is that we actually have a choice to turn it down without the fear of losing our jobs. Grow some backbone and quit your crying. It seems like you are the people who never got picked in gym or the schoolyard, then spent way too much time and money for college and finally have been bent over by the same type, if not the same greedy corporation that is trying to do it to us. Sorry for your life.

But it will suddenly be ok if they cave in and give you the money/benefits you want right?

What did I say that was nasty about the company? The truth hurts? Maybe you should be talking to them. I'm not disgruntled. I love my job. I can't help the politics and truths of the matter. If it were up to me I would be at work tomorrow working for the customers that make this company what it is. And working for this company does not make me a hypocrite. I would be a hypocrite if I was doing the same thing that Verizon does to its customers. I'm not unethical either as I am making a point of letting you and everyone else who reads this what is being done to them. I for one have left this company for another provider. That is how you fight back and take an ethical stand. It is not by quitting a job I've had for 20 years for no justifiable end. That would just be stupid!
