Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Pain of an ATO Job Loss

I just got the ATO letter. My AT&T placement company just sent me an article that IMO is timely given that this letter was unexpected for me. It discusses the emotions of losing a job no matter how much you wanted out.

So the poster(s) who claim profitability means layoffs and that obsolete technology is the doom of the company. Considering there is still a major issue with broadband access across the country, it’s not that the technology is obsolete, it’s that this company and subsidiaries have not invested in the infrastructure needed to deliver technology to a vast majority of the country. It is due to this that providers such as Comcast are absolutely eating up AT&T’s subscriber base. This is 100% due to micro mismanagement, bad leadership and largely due to the giant bureaucracy that T is. We once were a communication company i mean entertainment /utility / service provider* or whatever they want to call themselves that reaped billions in government subsidies, from fees and taxes that were supposed to be reinvested into the network- well that never happened. So where did all that money go? Cooking the books is what T does best, communication, entertainment not so much....

ATT gave out the $1000 before the tax cuts took effect in December, they cut their profits when their taxes were high by paying the “bonus” then when the tax cut was in effect they cut the performances bonuses adding at least S much to their profits which were at that point taxes at a much much lower rate. It was all smoke and mirrors. The American public were duped by the Trump tax cuts. We are all much worse off for them in the long run.

Everyone got $1000 bonus's as bribes. Hmm you are one of the dummies that leadership loves. You don't actually realize what happened, now do ya?
Management, sure we got that $1000 bonus, but not after getting our bonus's whacked. End result, we never got that $1000.
Non-management/craft, sure they got their $1000 bonus, which was negotiated months before by the union.

Per Wikipedia: "On October 24, 2014, Frontier closed its acquisition of AT&T's wireline, DSL, U-verse video and satellite TV businesses in Connecticut. The deal included the wireline subsidiaries Southern New England Telephone and SNET America and consumer, business and wholesale customer relationships."

T sold those assets, so Frontier is actually not like T because Frontier is filing for bankruptcy. T has lots of money, but they don't want to share with domestic employees.

@zty, if we the stockholders are so concerned about this company's profitability, WHY IS RANDALL STILL AROUND??? the biggest waste of shareholder value comes from Randall's inept acquisition sprees. Followed by the mismanagement and eventual ruin of those companies later.

The American workers of this company should not be seeing their jobs moved to India to pay for their CEO's incompetence!

AT&T's problems also include obsolete technologies. Take Frontier, who will be filing bankruptcy.

While they have some fiber, Frontier is largely a copper plant, and copper voice is obsolete, and copper data is becoming obsolete.

AT&T has some components like Frontier, but fortunately they have wireless. But nevertheless, AT&T's terrestrial copper plant will be generating declining revenues going forward, and supporting less workers as a result. I suspect copper voice is no longer at break-even right now, but they don't break out the revenue/income statements enough to confirm. With respect to copper operations, I don't see a lot of difference between AT&T and Frontier.

Mr. Stockholder, AT & T's financial woes are a direct result of bad decisions and poor leadership. And then hard working middle class Americans are the victims of the above mentioned. The point you are trying to make is that of someone who is a major stockholder. Offending some one who has just lost their job would be an understatement. You are basically telling everyone that loses their job that your money is more important then their job. T makes plenty of money and would have no problem with the cost of employees. Your post is pretty lame.

@-zty - do you have any clue whatsoever how much profit T makes every year? Perhaps if our leadership stops making disastrous decisions and paying themselves tens of millions of dollars they can afford to retain employees, most of whom are crucial to making those profits. Honestly you sound like you have no clue what you're talking about.

AT&T needs to be profitable and sometimes that means cutting expenses(Layoffs) and healthcare costs. As a stockholder I get we want employment at these companies but people forget that AT&T also has to make money. I am not trying to offend anyone but those are the facts
