Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Make sure you have plan B

I know a guy who was hired by OCI then got RIFed in March 2019, then hired by UBER than got RIFed in Sept 2019, not he is working for G. What's your plan B?

If I'm not mistaken, New York State is an example of a state where they have to provide a reason for firing one (and it has to be a good one). being rif'd is considered a reason.

And there need be no reason provided to justify a layoff. The company can have record profits, sales growth, etc, and still have a layoff. Most large companies layoff their deadwood, as opposed to firing them, to avoid unfair termination lawsuits. Most will make you sign away your right to sue in exchange for a paltry severance package.

So even in states with "workers rights" it's easy peasy to get rid of people,

A little bit off topic guys!

The people here:

I know one guy who can always complain about your English, seems he knows nothing but English. One guys always complain about Ex-Sun, seems he was f—ed by some Ex-Sun folks.

The company, aka Oracle:

Why we are all here during holiday season, because we care, we care about Oracle, such a great Tier 1 company. Now, it is so behind lots of old companies. But Oracle still has chance to win.

Ourselves:

Again, focus on your own skillset not what company you are working on, what title you already have, those can be gone in one day (a morning 1:1 with you manger scheduled at night one day earlier), remember that? It is not one shot, it might happen again in your entire life. Just face it ok? Keep your skillset up-to-date. There is no Plan B.

They still need some type of staffing for Solaris, which is still alive, barely. Problem is that ain’t a growth opportunity, especially if they contract in size and product scope. Bye bye Solaris support, off to Tata or HPE.

Growth opportunities

  • Cloud, obviously
  • AI, AR, automation
  • Databases especially SQL Server and Azure (Sorry Larry)
  • tiered web based services on premise, at scale (Sorry Jeff B some customers won’t move digital assets offsite. They just won’t, they have their reasons)
  • Security, security, did I mention SECURITY
  • next Gen comm like 5G, and/or infrastructure for all that automation and IoT devices and stuff

What will the next decade bring? Keep your antennas up and monitoring.

LE k–led off:
Sun Grid
Sun Cloud
SunRay
Oracle Virtual Desktop
SunCluster

But Ex-Sun people are dead weight. Got it. And those are just the products off the top of my head. There are plenty more I am sure.

Guys there is no such group called OCI. It's OCS (Oracle Consulting Services) and it's a needed but L sparingly for technical implementations. They tried long ago to compete with Accenture, DeLoitte, PWC and it of course was the wrong strategy (remember March 1st?). There once was a rumor that OCS would be sold off to compete independently in other areas (not a bad idea at all And they should have done it). That didn't happen. So Oracle shouldn't have to carry the brunt of the costs of staffing a large team for re-implementations from On-Premier to cloud. Of course they would have layoffs in OCS and nothing crazy at all there.

Not necessarily. Much depends on the state. Florida for instance is one of the "at will" states where you can be fired for any reason or no reason at all.

If I'm not mistaken, New York State is an example of a state where they have to provide a reason for firing one (and it has to be a good one). being rif'd is considered a reason.

Labor laws vary from state to state, so you can't generalize.

So, Mr. TK, let me tell you about two ex-Sun losers who were hired by a large East Coast software company BECAUSE of our long experience, and yes our AGE. One was me, the other a former colleague. And they want more like us, as the company keeps growing, and revenue hits the multiple billions.

So eff off. Good luck recruiting with your obvious anger management problem.

A full time job in America doesn’t mean much

I've had European colleagues ask me what kind of contracts we get in the US. The answer, of couse, is none.
