Block Scheduling

How many clubs actually follow block scheduling all the time?? I am supposed to be 6-2:30 (MSL) but my manager schedules us 9:45-6:15 on sundays because of “business needs” which I understand but now she’s trying to make me work a closing shift on Christmas Eve and didn’t even ask me. She asked me earlier if I could work a closing shift for a different day because one of the closers requested off and the other is supposed to have it off already, but before I could even answer her, she had already scheduled me for the closing shift. Should I talk to my club manager about this?

The way block scheduling was presented to us and force fed to us, I would not volunteer for any variation. Doing favors for so many years has gotten me nowhere. I'm fresh out of favors.

Not in our club. Our POS Oxygen thief of a HMS/Cafe lead is off every weekend. Special meat cutter is full time mid shift and off every Sunday.

Your not guaranteed an exact shift as a lead. The block scheduling graph mandates only that all shifts be filled. ASMs will try to stick to a routine for everyone’s benefit but it is not a guarantee. Working in retail during holiday season is always going to call for changes, that’s the nature of the beast. A lead should be understanding in this, as im sure you have had to make adjustments to your associates schedules as well.

At least you are getting hours. We’ve only had 35 hours a week all of December and projected going through February...

You signed the paper for the 6-2:30 schedule so technically you do not have to work outside of that. Mgr should always ask before making a change. No matter what day it is

For sure! I would talk to them. Tell them you have plans with family that evening.
