As an employee I can tell you the company is chasing nickles to pay for the dollars wasted by management looking to remake the industry. More layoffs will be seen to cover the losses in customer base. They abandoned their current network deeming it unworthy of spending capitol to promote wireless expansion. A great idea that could be valid if they had a wireless platform to develop but they don't. They have been trying to buy the pieces of a wireless network and assemble it into a business. This has predictably turned out as it did for Dr. Frankenstein a barely functional monster. All at the cost of it's core infrastructure that supports it's current revenue stream. This is highlighted by the fact that they have basically only two job titles in the company sales and installation. Sell a 2yr. contract and install it before the customer knows what they have signed ignore them until the contract comes due. This is why unfortunately more layoffs will be forth coming.
Layoffs are like playing Jenga – remove too many pieces and it all falls apart. What they're doing is removing more expensive experienced workers in favor of contractors. One thing you can't learn in a college course is how to get firewall rules opened, or how to request access to create vms, access to internal tools, processes and procedures – all that goes away with each employee laid off. So these people know who to contact, and have a working relationship with those people to get the job done – well those are gone and they aint coming back... so right now the jenga tower is wobbling – we'll see how many they can pull out before the whole thing crumbles.
Omg listening to this town hall droning on and on explaining the ‘reasons’ why they are going to lay-off thousands of IT people..... optimize, simplify, revamping, blah blah - just get to it. The employees could tell you what needs to be fixed. But whatever.
AT&T promised to use the Trump tax cuts to increase it's staff.. well it's replacing jobs in the US with Jobs in other countries.
AT&T LAYOFFS still continues from January 2020 before covid 19 with last day payroll March 13th, 2020 then they found out can qualify for stimulus check changed last day payroll May 12th after 20 years of employment with At&t, and now saying doing layoffs because of loss due to covid 19 when they were already performing layoffs with notification starting from November 2019. Also at&t employees notified May 7th expect more layoffs coming. JUST SAD!!!!
What's the news with ATT Tv Internet only installs. Looks like a lot of fiber rollouts in MDU's or apartments lately?
Layoffs or not?
My dads job is at risk, I know life isn’t fair sometimes but this is bull c-ap. There’s families that depend on this job and their doing this. Right now he’s working almost 7 hours away, all he’s trying to do is keep his job and be able to move closer to home.😔
Leadership is totally denying layoffs. Instead they will “coach” people out and the longer you have been with the company the more you are at risk. Treatment of management employees is awful - we get bullied and pressured to do what it takes to get sales. Get out while you can
I’m a retail employee with 27 years and would like to volunteer for lay-off how do I go about it?

You will be informed in your mandatory meeting. Until then please continue to perform your duties as assigned.
I used to pay for some AT&T services. However I have not been an AT&T customer for many years now as there are a LOT of better options for similar, or better services.
At one company that I had worked at for almost 15 years I was ORDERED to train 2 younger, less highly paid "replacement" employees. I did train them in the "basics" of the job but was unable to transfer my many years of college BA with Honors skills, many years of on the job experience skills, many years of additional training course skills through continuing education courses and corporate training classes. This took me like 19 years to learn. Trained them for a few hours but hey they can go and take all of those same technical training classes that I did over the past 19 years and then learn what I knew at the time. I was not able to transfer 19 years of training in a few hours. Too bad for them. I got a much better, higher paying job with a great future after I resigned from that company. They got laid off during a corporate merger I was told.
You know how this goes "assigning them to train their own foreign replacements". No training for anything meaningful. VERY, VERY quick "training session". Forget training on the "important stuff". Cannot replace many years of hard earned experience with a "newbie". Cannot train a "newbie" to know what you know after like 10 years of personal experience even if they are actually motivated to try to do so, but they are NOT. Too busy applying for a new job to train offshore "newbie". Silly idea.

Simple Answer:
EVERY-SINGLE-YEAR!
“Bottom line 5% reduction in workforce by the end of 2020!“
You have a typo. You forgot the 1 in front of the 5. At lest 15% reduction by end of 2020 and probably will continue through 2023.
It’s going to continue to get worse. The company has lost its way. It’s just too big to realize it yet. Its a zombie company kept alive through artificially low interest rates providing cheap debt.

Your forecast does not accommodate the continuous mass exodus of customers.
They cannot cut their way to profitability.
Without a clear vision from experienced leaders and seasoned experts to execute on that vision, they will never stabilize and grow.
The company will continue to bleed out.
Regular reduction in personnel will continue for the foreseeable future thru 202 and beyond. There is a target to get to by EOY 20.
Bottom line 5% reduction in workforce by the end of 2020!
From what we know in the email to ATO and others, if not enough take the MVO (lucky ducks) of 4Q19, and get off books by EOY 2019, then 1Q20 will see forced surplus. It's been speculated, that 2Q20 will then see more Outsourcing. Once after 4Q19 MVO, and then during 1Q20 Surplus another reorg will occur (naturally), and that leads the the Outsourcing, as the reorg will section off groups made ripe for outing in that manner. Not sure what 3Q20 may bring, perhaps more Surplus, and then 4Q20 may bring another round of MVO's (the happiest of getting kicked out to receive) to finally get the greater AT&T employee numbers down to the lean, clean, fighting machine it knows it can be, and become a playa yet once again. I think they will accomplish their goals, and Randels three-year plan will hit the mark.
