I work in a department that handles this contingency planning and for the person that said that managers have been trained and have this under control, IT IS A LIE. Managers are asked to watch a video of what their assignment is and on their way they go, they have no idea what they are doing , none, ZERO.

I am management, and - without judging one way or the other - I can tell you that my org is affected by the strike. We were already cut deeply in the Jan surplus, so any extended work stoppage hurts us significantly. (Just to clear it up for the person saying it won’t matter). We have ties to executives, so a 3 day strike may not cause total mayhem, but more than that? I hate to think about it....

The small strike is simply a warning shot across the bow.

It's designed to let the company know a real strike is now a serious consideration that is on the table unless some progress is made towards the contract itself.

You all know this already but the company is in mass layoff mode and has been for a few years now. Folks aren't over-reacting when it comes to job security issues. There is no training ( hasn't been for my group since we were SBC ) and all the work from everyone else who HAS been let go is being dumped on whomever is left. It's about as sh***y a work environment as I've ever seen with this Company.

We have ongoing projects in Bell South as I type this which all have deadlines. I'm guessing any that are scheduled for Mon / Tue of next week are pretty much non-starters. However, Corporate Real Estate ( is their projects ) better get a clue because if Bell South goes out on an extended strike, they can kiss those red-hot-we-gotta-get-em-done-right-now project deadlines goodbye.

Personally, I think Bell South ( and any region for that matter ) should strike to get a reasonable contract out of the Company. ( No, a token 1-2% raise every year for the duration of the contract only to evaporate because our health care premiums doubled is not a reasonable contract. )

It's not out fault our leadership has made some really piss-poor decisions in the past few years. So if you really want to start fixing what's wrong, start with firing the Executives who thought buying DirecTv, Time Warner and handing T-Mobile billions of dollars over a failed merger was a grand idea.

The company is never going to be clear of debt until you get rid of the folks who are keeping us there. ( Tip: It's not the rank and file. )

These strikes are a waste of time. Management has been trained and has this covered. Enjoy your strike pay!

Why is the main D3 site not saying anything?

It k–ls me that some folks on this board get so hung up on semantics. Is it because that’s all you have to hang on to? Nobody should want a strike. Unless you are willing to prolong a strike for months, the likelihood of it being incredibly effective is slim to none, not to mention people and families cannot afford it. If you can, then congratulations. Just be mindful of the majority that cannot. Also, rest assured that the company knows exactly what the membership knows. They probably know it even BEFORE the membership knows. The strike will not be prolonged, you will be back to work this week, and you will work without a contract until the union is forced to give in to the company’s demands. I will never understand how we see this same thing happen over and over and yet people expect a different result. I wish it was different, but to expect anything else is just nonsense. Everyone is replaceable. If the union decides to play hardball, the company wins because they will rid themselves of it. If the union bends over, the company wins as well. The days of effective bargaining and unionization are over and only serve to pad the pockets of union leadership.

And actually they didn’t tell the company of the end date... they told the membership.

@1kzo “Telling the company when you’ll be back just means leadership does the bare minimum until you return. The loss is minimal on the business.”

It’s a ULP strike. While the union has planned to come back Wednesday they can prolong it until the unfair labor practice is resolved. So technically it can be an indefinite strike.

@1nuy There’s no conspiracy. Union workers aren’t getting paid and T actually profits from a work stoppage. T does not care. Those are facts and not some imaginary hypothesis. A prolonged strike is different. Telling the company when you’ll be back just means leadership does the bare minimum until you return. The loss is minimal on the business.

Calling someone a jackass is a great way for people to take you seriously btw.

@lkt boohoo. 2 1/4 days pay. If you don’t have a strike fund to manage that then too bad.

@1hgl You’re a jack@ss. Of course this is what the company wanted and orchestrated. The union is doing what they need to do in response to the company’s actions. Not everything is a conspiracy.

For those of you happy about a strike - I wish you the best of luck. This is a staged exercise that allows the company to recover millions of labor dollars. That money just gets dumped right back into the contract. The union is paying for its own contract and believes its members are too stupid to recognize it. The union has zero power - smoke and mirrors - making a ton of money while the union isn’t getting paid.

Good luck on the contract guys. Most of us are pulling for you. I’ll be one of those “management” types working on Monday. I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to this stuff, they made me watch a bunch of videos online and climb a ladder, but I’ll do the best I can. Im sure someone will be cleaning up the mess I make weds.

I’m actually looking forward to getting out of the office. Sadly all my work will pile up and be waiting for me when I get back. My job s—s more than you can imagine and is extremely stressful and demanding on a daily basis. Just know we’re forced to do this or we can lose our jobs if we don’t.

Don't worry you'll make it back with overtime catching up on all the work that was missed and fixing everything that management breaks.

Going to get fisted out of 2 1/4 days of pay. The company appreciates you saving them the labor costs and helping to reduce their debt.
