I joined 19 months ago and every month I hear about layoffs here or there? Why is that? Can we organize a large layoff and get over with it? This does not help with the morale at all.

They lay people off in small groups so they don't have to officially report it.
"the WARN Act requires employers to give notice of any mass layoff, that does not result from a plant closing but will result in an employment loss of 500 or more employee jobs during any 30-day period."
Also, when they lay off people in smaller numbers, it doesn't get as much media and investor attention as it would if they laid off 1000-1500 people in a single swoop.
I agree with you. The way they do it isn't good for morale.
Why does Oracle lay off so much?
Because they can
Just curious if anyone such as an Individual Contributor (non-manager) has successfully negotiated more money for their severance package. Has anyone attempted this? I am sure most people just accept the default terms.
This is culture is most of the big companies. I have worked at Oracle, Salesforce, IBM, Cisco. All follow same culture. The way GCP is hiring, I see the same culture coming there as well.
Because a scared, loser employee is a productive loser employee.
It’s because they are too dumb to transfer great employees to a new area. They would rather lay people off and then hire newbies who take over a year to get productive.
Not enough toilet seats for headcount so they have flush fifo and hope the pipe does not clog.
it is possibly related to cloud revenue fraud.....
I agree. I have worked in a couple of large companies now and they all have their own "quirks" shall we say. You either put up with it, or move along. Those are your choices because it doesn't change.
Because people eventually as for a raise after 8 or 9 years ...
@nqz and @zjb are correct.
you cannot control things here, it's too big.
take care of yourself, use this opportunity and grow.
there are some goods sides here, you'll learn how to navigate within a large company, many people working here are smart and many managers are solid mentors. now, there are many drawbacks to working in a large company (red tape, you are a 'number', alieniation, etc.) and some managers are bad - but, with a bit luck you will figure it out just like everyone else and get a few productive years out of your tenure here.
also, remember, most large companies are similar to oracle (faang excluded - they are flush with money and that makes things a bit different)
After 20 years here all I got to say is "relax and accept it"
Agreed, and keep working on your kegels and flexibility too, because that’s all stuff within your control.
They do it to avoid WARN Act implications.
There are some deep root drag this company down.
After 20 years here all I got to say is "relax and accept it" - this company will chew you up and spit you out if needed. accept it and treat oracle accordingly. get the most you can get out of it, ask for better pay, climb up, learn from it and within it. do not expect love or loyalty.
Because we s-u-c-k??
