Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

VCG OP&OO

  1. Sincere compassion for anyone impacted. I was impacted in the first round back in Feb, but found a new role within OP&OO. My new team was not impacted in this round.
  2. Was this 2nd round planned all along, Or was this a reactionary move to a bad Q2 / churn?
  3. How in the world do they pick who goes? Based on my impact the first time, it wasn’t due to performance.

Feels like a real life chess game when these things happen. : (

Thank you for this perspective @zcb+1i4B6yZH. I used to believe it was performance based but have learned differently. Bottom line I suppose is have the resume always updated, LinkedIn profile current, and be ready to walk when not given the opportunity to stay. I genuinely appreciate you sharing your perspective.

You mean a lot of it is done by a pro-DEI party.

As someone who has been part of something like this and the rigorous planning (unfortunately) the previous post is correct. The Directors and leaders do not know. They are a made of the business needs and strategy, but the planning process is done by numerous other groups. There are various models that get designed. Only HR is really part of the whole process from beginning to end. It is a very strategic process. The leaders are removed to prevent favoritism. There is a lot that goes into it, geography, business needs, etc. I have seen President Cab winners riffed and employees that abuse LOA stay on. A lot of it is done by a neutral party. Best of luck to those impacted.

You were laid off by Verizon and you stayed? Why? Get some self esteem and go elsewhere.

@psi+1i4B6yZH Agreed! When I was impacted back in Feb., my director said there was no knowledge of the impact until it was already determined. The director was so good to work with me in helping me find another role. It is so odd how the list just seems to get published and sent to leadership to handle communicating.

So..I know that if you have disciplinary action or your annual review was poor you are first to go.
I used to think it was salary and longevity based, but I was wrong. I’ve had counterparts get the cut that had less years than me and made less salary than me. I know this because we shared our salaries with each other to see if our theories were accurate. I thought for sure on 2 occasions I was going to be cut, but here I am.
It’s not performance/numbers based bc I’ve seen people that just got presidents cabinet get the rif. It’s a mystery. Might be somewhat geography based.
I do know that once your name is on the list it’s done. Your director can’t do anything about it.

Planned all along and Reactionary.

Leadership will never admit to it, but the idea of merging sales, care, retail ops teams into one is just planting the seed to operate the consumer side with less resources Wake up and smell the coffee…

There were no answers provided in a SOPE meeting yesterday, we just reviewed an org chart. Firing people and creating even more chaos solves nothing. Precious little is getting done at a time when so much needs to be done to turn things around. Whoever created OP&OO needs to be held accountable for this mess.

With how few answers my leadership had about what comes next it feels reactionary.
