Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Meetings next week

Admins to the leaders that were let go are being forced into a secret meeting on Monday.
“Per John’s email, we will need your help
scheduling upcoming transformation activation conversations…Do not share this session or the invitation”.
We have to help HR setup the transition / termination meetings next week.
He seemed baffled at my being upset, that I think it’s outrageous for me to have to do this to my coworkers.
HR had ZERO compassion with my emotions of the firing of my boss.
They’ve threatened me with termination, verbally and via email against sharing that my leader was exited, they’re not supposed to talk to us either. I am not allowed to share with his Sr team.

It’s really incredible to me they didn’t utilize the many consultants or even an ETW that’s hired to do their hit jobs, like they did in 2020. Very thoughtless.

Anyone who has worked with a good admin knows they are worth their weight in gold! Hug your admin if you know a good one.

@fbd+1r7Iy1TS I cannot fathom having the freedom to show up any way I want in this world and actively choosing to make it a worse place to be. That’s exactly what you’re doing. It’s disgusting and such a waste of life. Be better, not bitter. And get out of Nike in the process. You’re absolutely a part of the problem and we don’t want you here.

I’m embarrassed by how humiliating being an admin is at Nike. Most of us are extremely overqualified for these roles while putting on a stupid smile for people who truly don’t care about our feelings or careers for that matter. It’s nice to know so many care, but at the end of the day they truly think we are d-mb little secretaries or something and walk all over us no problem. I’m sorry you had to send that out … unreal.

This is norm at Nike. Historically it has always been the admins that are responsible for sending the invites and expected to keep it confidential. Sadly it’s part of the job for admins. I’ve had to do this several times. Carrying that burden is the worst. You train yourself to be numb and get through it. Cry afterwards with someone you trust. And you’re still expected to be silent about it. I wish I had advice to give you. Everyone deals with this stuff differently. Be kind to yourself, cry as much as you want and find a distraction. Know you are not alone and after it’s done, start a support group with your admin peers. You’ll get through this.

This is doubly unfair, people know their VPs were let go today, regardless of comms. Slack account gets deactivated and removed from channels. No longer searchable in Outlook or Phonebook. So why are they making you pretend?! What good could possibly come from this?! So unfair to fall to the admins!

I’m appalled at the things being said about admins. The admins I’ve worked with have been wonderful - big contributors in making it a positive and fun working environment (as much as they can control) and extremely helpful when I need support even though I’m not important enough to have my own admin. Admins - please know most of us appreciate you. The few ruthless, bitter employees in the comments are no better than JD and the other “servant” leaders that think they are superior and more deserving of a place on payroll. They are a part of the problem. They do not represent the masses.

The administrative assistance personnel are useless. Should have bee the first to go. How can we FTEs manage our calendars and such but some fu--ing senior director or VP needs some over payed secretary to handle their affairs? Useless peices of cr-p...but yeah let's keep hiring them hard over fist.

I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with this. I was an admin for a long time and went through CDA. It never gets easier. It’s so no right that you’re the one who bears the emotional brunt of this. Nike can absolutely afford to hire contractors to do this work, I don”t understand this.

HR should be utilizing their little fingers to create their sla-ghter meetings.
I am disgusted.
Nike keeps admins at a near poverty level.
Their bonuses are maxed out at 5% of their salaries. Most Admins make $55-85k. The higher end is for EAs.
They will not even tell Admins what the pay scale is for their position, so they can’t even know if they’re underpaid or paid well.
So when they did not give anyone merit increases in 2020 (&21?), but everyone still got PSPs, your admin got less than $3500 after taxes and no cost of living increases for 2 years during the most expensive time.
The 3.5% merit increases give them $20 more per check, and no team ever wants to give up a HS to an Admin. Now their bosses are gone, so they can’t even share how well they did FY23.

Admins manage, partner, strategize, care, and council the team, keep confidence, and have access to the highest level information; and that’s they’re compensated.
So many of your favorite admins are suffering and have been for months keeping these secrets, being scared they’re going to be fired; while barely scraping by financially.
Please make sure and show them some love if they ever made your day better. Recommendations on LinkedIn and providing professional contacts goes a lot further than a Starbucks Card.

I didn’t mean to have ETWs on our team do it, but NKE can very much hire an ETW specifically to lay off… a contract. Kinda like an employment hitman :-/

Let's have the Admins, whom we refuse to move up to a 40, 45, 50 level, handle some of the most confidential stuff.

Disgusting.

Absolutely su-ks you’re bring out in this situation and your feelings are being met with threats. I think HR business partners should handle this. But don’t like the suggestion of sending ETWs to do. They’re people too and many join with the hopes of one day converting. No one should be sent to do the dirty work after removing VPs. Stay strong. Next week will be hard. I’m so sorry

We are to decline meeting invites saying they’re unavailable atm, get expense reports done, and pack up their desks, and reschedule (not cancel) any team meetings (all without telling anyone, of course).

So they're cutting deeper into the legs of the VPs who were let go and making their admins do it?

I would love to start a petition to remove JD from CEO. Because f**** that guy.

He’s been around 4 years and hasn’t done anything good for the company.
How is his CFE? How is he being rated? I could tell you it should be failing. He should be exited.
We hired such incredible talent. Forced people to move, put them under incredible stress, shattered their dream jobs, to execute HIS strategies.
What has he sacrificed? Parker took a 71% paycut in 2017. THAT was accountability.
Would love a petition
