Legal outsourced to India?

Did anyone else hear about most attorney functions being outsourced to India in Q1 2021?

as @pot said, there are some things that cant be moved. scra would be one. any review of military orders cant be done overseas. certain fraud activities as they can involve foreigners so reporting suspicious activity to the feds shouldnt be done by offshore teams. im sure this post is a troll or bs

@yzd That logic only applies to changes in the law. You have to also be able to interpret it and apply it to the business functions, contracts, agreements, releases, marketing campaigns, letters, procedures, lender signing, titles and the list goes on and on. Any management that thinks legal is just rubber stamping all day need to come see me so i can set them straight, as half dont know their head from their A.

People care more about some extra money than keeping jobs for their own, here in the states. Do you think Charlie will survive the racist comment?

Hopefully people in Iowa, Houston and LA have been interviewing.

Chase and BofA have their regulatory and state law monitoring teams in India. This work is handled by US educated lawyers located in India and may or may not be managed by a US based attorney. It would only make sense this would happen in the WF legal department as well. This is a very large team today and the work can easily be done outside of the US cheaper. It is really just monitoring changes in the law – that is done via Westlaw or other vendor services.

FYI the paralegals do a lot of the work that attorneys do and for A LOT less.

Ive beard through many people that management is tired of legal opex when most work can be done by outsourcing since most of it is already done by outside firms while insiders just chill and rubber stamp it

Good point, @kdk (I’m hnu). Guess this thread could use the insight of someone who knows stuff about staffing corporate legal functions. I’ll bow out now. :-)

Perhaps what you heard about might be paralegal type work? I am no attorney but just guessing that if they are moving any of this work that it would be at that level

That would make ZERO sense. I’m no lawyer but I’d think that a US-based bank with most of its business in the US would be looking for US-trained lawyers who’ve passed a US state bar exam. Again, no expert in the field, perhaps corporate attorneys don’t need to pass the bar but I’d expect WF would mainly require knowledge of US laws and regulations with a smaller call for those with international or country-specific knowledge and experience.

But then, Wells track record shows plenty of decisions that make ZERO sense.

I heard that some areas could go. They did it before and it was disastrous. If they do it again it would be a quick fix with even bigger problems in the near future. All of it would come back.
